Buc's call at end of the game

I didn't see a post for this...thought it was kind of interesting from yesterday.

So many of you probably know that Buc's coach - Schiano - called a play where they tried to push o-line into Manning at the end of the game yesterday while giants were kneeling. What are your thoughts on this? Is there actually an unwritten rule that you should follow? I, personally, like the call. Game wasn't over yet. At least try to make something happen...

But boy, did that make Tom Coughlin mad!

Game is 60 minutes... they have every right to play it to the end. And if I were the Bucs... moving forward I'd be ready to play every game til the end.

I go back and forth on this one. At first I thought that it was dumb, the game was over, take your loss and don't be sour grapes. But the more I thought about it, It's a 60 minute game and if he did fumble, he you never know, funnier things have happened. I don't mind the call, go hard all the time. Coughlin needs to suck it up.

I have no idea how this works on the field but I would think it would be something like this. "Offense yells out "kneel, kneel!" Defense says ok and relaxes. If the defense doesn't say ok and come out of their stances, then offense should assume they are coming and get themselves ready.

Game is 60min so didn't bother me, but man Tom Coughlin is a big old sissy pants....acting all big and bad to Schiano...yet Schiano would have kicked his butt if he wanted to.

Imagine the uproar (and years and years of replay) if the snap had been bobbled and the Tampa Bay line just relaxed back on their haunches allowing Eli to scamble and recover the ball uncontested.

Coughlin is dead wrong on this one. You play to win and you put yourself in the best position possible to do that. Tampa Bay did what they had to do to try and compete. And seriously...Eli fell on his butt. He's a grown man; I think he'll be OK.

Herd talked about this for a while today. He played a clip of dan marino complaining about Schiano's call and saying it was "just not done", and then Herd put a caller on who pointed out that marino once faked a clock-killing spike and threw a td pass instead.

So far I have heard only two ex players saying it was bad (Esiason and Marino) and the rest including Antonie Pierce who won a SB with Coughlin saying it is perfectly OK.

I have no problem with it, as Golic pointed out this morning, there was no doubt that the Bucs were coming with the way they lined up, if the Giants don't get themselves ready then that is on them. The grief should be with the OL that let them get shoved off the ball into the QB.

yeah, i could go either way on it. i guess i should say i understand both sides. but now his cover is blown and his O-line should be ready for a punch in the mouth come kneel time in the same situation.

personally, i wouldn't do it if i was the coach. but, then again, i'm not good enough to be the coach.

Everyone is all high and mighty about this, until it happens to Iowa. Then, it is the dirtiest play of the game.

You are not going to be able to "knock the lineman into the QB," he is taking a knee instantly. Your only hope is for a fumbled snap, or you time the snap and swat it out of the center's hand....yeah neither are going to happen. Hence the reason everyone is letting up, the game is over.

Game was over...have you ever seen a fumbled snap on a kneel down...probably not C and QB are relaxed it just doesn't happen. I think a pretty sad move to do this. Yeah you play to win, but not take chep shots.

It is only a cheap shot if the Bucs acted like they were taking the play off and then went. They were lined up to go after the ball in 4 point stances, the Giants OL dropped the ball.

I look at this like running up the score. If I was a coach, I wouldn't run up the score or do what Schiano did, but the other team has no business whining about it. If they do their job this would never have been an issue.

I'm ok with it. 60 minute game. The Bucs just happened to man up and play hard that final play, and hoped to cause a fumble, etc. The Giants are just whining about it because they didn't expect it.
