Five years later, the network is running less academic coverage than ever as it generates tens of millions in revenue for the conference and boasts of 51 million subscribers. Citing low ratings and poor production quality, the network and university presidents agreed to slash academic programming and emphasize quality and ratings over quantity.

That means more time to air revenue-generating sports such as football, even in the offseason.

Wow, so is this a concession that an Iowa vs Michigan softball game is drawing more interest than some long hairs pontificating about literature? I think there is a decent talent pool in Chicago for btn to draw from and that they should consider their own original content including possibly some reality type crap. Maybe follow various crews of tailgaters as they go through fb season. Or better yet, groups of coeds whoring around Madison, IC, East Lansing, etc. Give some kids internships that would actually prepare them to work for MTV.

Hell, during the offseason they could just run shows based off of similar topics to stuff miller has been starting on here and make them partially interactive with people commenting on the twitter and draw some degree of decent rankings for die hard fans I would suspect. As much as I like btn live broadcasts and even the recap shows, they are pretty terrible from march through September other than the summer practice football tour.

What would be neat though is if they did game shows like ESPN did back in the day putting one school against another.

Maybe he should pitch them a weekly Hawkeye Nation show. It could be hosted by Miller, but about 10 seconds into it, we would hijack it with talk about Mopeds, Two Star Stan, and Ponies. You could have a segment where Thunder just yells at someone in rage. Follow Duffman around as he hogs the Ped Mall. Spank could get drunk and eat Casey's pizza. Maybe you and I could host an interactive trolling seminar.

It might be the only think on BTN I would ever watch.

Ya know, I think Ghost might be on to something. Between the beer and BBQ threads there is definitely enough material for a Food Network type of show on tailgating. It wouldn't be based completely on students and alumni crushing Busch/Miller/Bud/Coors light. Instead it would focus on good food, beer, liquor, and how tailgating at all other B1G universities sucks.
