BTN.com's Pre-Season All B1G

These things are a waste of time. Fans vote for favorites not the best player. Media votes for institutions who they want to suck up to. Very few people are true journalists who look at things objectively. The death of print media is because there is a lack of credibility. People passing on others opinions and claiming them to be theirs. At the end of the season 90% of the awards will go to blue bloods and their players and the media will talk about how they knew it before the season began. Just like the mvp in the NBA. It starts with so and so is due to win and all of a sudden they win. Steven Bardo with his picks for Illinois is a real shocker. When you make predictions and do the voting themselves it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

The only thing that comes out of Nebraska are steers and __________s....Uh oh, I feel 74 Hunter coming on in 3, 2, 1.....

I agree with you to a degree. It is silly so early in the preseason to get hung up on whether Player X is better than Player Y and who belongs on the first, second or third teams. However, as a macro view of how others view Iowa basketball -- in this case, analysts from the BTN who have spent a lot of time getting to know the coaches, players and programs in the B1G -- it's a little disconcerting to get shut out of all consideration save for one second team mention. Don't you agree?

Meh, you were right at the beginning. Does not matter, we didn't have a preseaon 1st team pick last year either, but we did at the end of the year when it mattered.

Interesting that Denzel Valentine got a 1st team vote. Could he be there?.. I guess, but I think Newbill should be on the 1 line. You guys are right that these don't matter, too many politics are involved, but it's still fun to read.

I'd love to see Iowa getting recognition but I don't expect it from the BTN. Most of the people talking were our opponents at one time and when they say something positive it's usually in an attempt to further another teams image. In other words they show us as a stepping stone. BTN commentators have not impressed me over the years but they are lights out better than the ones on the vaunted Cyclone tv network.
