BTN Analysts High on Hampton

Seen too many flashes of brilliance in 08 not to think that if he stays healthy he will be in Iowa's top 5 running back (all time)by the time he is through.

I know that's saying a lot, but I will stand by my statement.

Quick correction - Jewel did not get an OWI this offseason. That was Binns. He was in a bar late and got caught up by the Gestapo I mean Iowa City PD

Trapper Jon dont worry about it. Before he was hurt back on the old site i kept posting how he was going to break Iowa's all time rushing record if he came back for his senior year. Right now he is only 3693 yards away thats only 1231 yards a year for 3 years. Although due to his unfortunate injury Arob is much closer with only 3322 yards left with only having to average 1107 yards over the next 3 years. Let the race begin.

I believe A-rob is a good back.

Having said that I think we will see Jewel separate from the others. Wegher included.

If you get the chance, watch some highlights from his frosh season. I was shocked how quick and explosive he looked then. If this OL can open some holes, Jewel could do some special things. I try not to make statements like this, but I'll say now Jewel can be better than Clay and Royster this season. Obviously all 3 are different types of backs and their success is largely dependent on their OLs, but Jewel's burst definitely isn't something you see from Clay, and I just think he is more explosive than Royster. And I like Royster's skills a lot, but I think Jewel is very comparable, just w/ more burst and quicker feet.

Jewel is a mix of Arob's strength and toughness and Wegher's speed. In other words the complete back the others are not.

Both Hampton and Robinson are quality backs and you need two as injuries always happen, so maybe both around 1000 yards this year would be great for Iowa

Remember the summer thread about listing the RB depth chart? I'd say 90% didn't have Jewel at #1...as I have said all along, he is our best back and is clearly our #1 back.

He will sit out one game and have a great deal more yards than any other back in my opinion.
