Brondon Scherff Article

Brandon Scherff claims not to have heard the buzz.
Which is fine, because even if he had, Scherff likely would be the last guy to comment on it.
Nonetheless, many in and around the Iowa football program believe that the redshirt freshman from Denison-Schleswig High School has the tools to be the next big star in the offensive line. The most important observers, the Hawkeye coaches, also have seen something they liked. The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder spent spring practice as the No. 1 left guard.
Iowa offensive coordinator Ken O’Keefe said Scherff already has made strides under offensive line coach Reese Morgan. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ready to trot out with the starting unit for Iowa’s season opener against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 3.
“He’s still a guy trying to get the system figured out, and Reese is doing a great job with him,’’ O’Keefe said. “You can see him flash and you can see him use that body at times, which makes a huge difference. But he’s got to know what he’s doing on every play.’’
