Breaking Down Iowa Hoops Recruiting After Dale Jones Gets Extra Year

I think Fran's son will walk on. HIs dad has said he wouldn't prevent him from playing baseball if he wanted to. I don't know how good he is in basketball, although he must be pretty good, but he could be a major league prospect at baseball. I doubt he would make the NBA in basketball.

It sure looks like the talent upgrade is going to keep getting better and better for awhile.

So Rob do you get the sense that we are going to stop recruiting Williams, Garza, and Nunge? If one of them wanted to commit, could we accept, and basically say CM is either going to walk on or take a scholarship when one inevitably frees up? Those are the real questions here.

Coaches definitely need to and will continue to recruit '17s. There are always moving pieces and fluidity to the recruiting process. I don't have an answer to if Fran would accept a commitment from one of the Top 4 and if he and Connor have talked about him walking on. And they might not share that information at this time.

This season is a big one for Fran & Co. Win and we keep ourselves in the spotlight for some top recruits. But either way we have some good talent, and more on the way. The future looks bright!

Two words: best player available.

If a player Fran feels strongly about commits I'm sure we will sign him and Connor will be a walk-on...temporarily. I have little doubt that someone will leave after the season due to playing time. The roster is too young and the following season's playing time should be pretty obvious...making at least 1 transfer almost a given.

If a marginal player wants to commit Fran will most likely ask him to be patient and wait until spring. Or go find a comparable player next spring when a scholarship becomes available...due to transfer. I don't think Connor will walk-on for a marginal player. We already have a lot of talent on the roster and committed.

I think Iowa will win their share of games, but a bigger factor in recruiting is going to show recruits what type of basketball Iowa is going to play. I enjoyed watching the past teams, but they were mostly one player dimensional. Woodbury, Clemmons, and Gesell were pretty limited offensively. Iowa appears to have a lot of guys that have the ability to attack offensively now. You could see last year how Uhl and Wagner were being coached to attack the rim. Baer did it in the last game of the season pretty successfully. Jok, Williams, Baer, Uhl, Wagner, Cook, Dailey, Ellingson, ect. are more than capable of putting pressure on the other teams defense. They should loosen up the other teams defense for each other too.
