Tom Brady, Patriots get hammered by NFL in deflate-gate punishment
I'm hardly a fan of Tom Brady, the Patriots or any other NFL team other than the ones who draft recent Hawkeye players. But this is total crap. Complete bullsheet based on a weak, unsubstantiated report by a third party that could provide no firm evidence of tampering.
The blame for under-inflated balls in the championship game falls squarely on two parties: the officiating crew and the NFL. It is the duty of the officials to inspect each game ball and to check the inflation, then take whatever steps are necessary to ensure the integrity of the balls up to and including game time. They failed in this instance.
Additionally, the league supposedly was tipped weeks ahead of time to possible problems with the balls at Gillette Stadium. In a critical championship game, it would seem incumbent for the league to take every step available to check the balls and to make sure custody was maintained once they had been inspected. It would have been proper for one of their investigators to be on site monitoring every movement of the batch of balls.
The league is conveniently trying to shift blame for this embarrassing saga onto one of its most successful teams and quarterbacks, when in fact there are three fingers of blame pointing back it.
What a crock.
