Bowl Invitation

Congratulations are in order for coach Kirk Ferentz, who has just been offered a perennial invitation to the Play Not To Lose Bowl. The PNTLB committee members have been so impressed with coach Ferentz's risk averse coaching skills that they have reserved a permanent spot for him, whatever team he happens to be coaching. One committee member commented that Kirk has set the standard, a bar so low that people are regularly stupefied when Kirk decides to shut his offense down, regardless of how the rest of the team is playing.

When asked about the honor, Kirk remarked that he has worked incredibly hard to achieve such an award, stating it was a combination of poor game management, lame coaching and player selection, and a complete lack of vision for what his team was capable of achieving each week. As Gary Dolphin remarked, "Indeed, it is truly a well-deserved honor, no one deserves it more than coach Kirk Ferentz."

The date and location for the PNTL Bowl has not been determined at this time but the committee is hopeful to announce it shortly, once they have identified a worthy opponent.

Lame. Personally, I was disgusted with the outcome and ashamed of my behavior as an adult and father of 3 children under the age of 10. My passion for Iowa Football and Basketball has been passed onto them. By looking at the drive chart, the Hawks had 3 drives in the 3rd quarter that a) didn't sustain much momentum and b) didn't take much time off the clock. If I remember correctly, the 2 3 n outs were 5 passes and one run. (I could be wrong.) KF of old would have ran the crap out of the ball. This just gives him more fuel to say see throwing the rock isn't in the teams best interest. Also, DP's fumble gives him more reason to not throw the ball downfield at the end of the half.

I remember the end of the Fry era. The cupboard was bare. Social media, internet, and cell phones did not give people the opportunity to bash the coach as they do today. Times change. Bill Walsh may have been correct when he said 10 years is the max a coach can stay. All the goodwill gestures KF does for the University and the community do not overshadow the big business of college football.

I don't think they coached not to lose. I think the momentum shifted so quickly that people were caught with their pants down.

If he would have been coaching to win the game, he would have benched JR and played CJ, for at least a couple of series to try to reclaim the momentum. JR was not sharp at all, he was way off target on many of his throws, but Kirk being risk averse would not change his QB.

They were not caught with their pants down, they let their coach's indecisiveness destroy their ability to finish off the opponent.

I think he was pretty decisive. You guys clamoring for CJ may as well keep clamoring. Read the post game presser. KF was asked any thought of CJ? Nope, not that I know of was his response. Sure could have inserted CJ to prove his point or he could have run MW or JC a couple times, but they did neither.

The game got out of hand quickly. The punt returns shifted the game and the Armstrong being able to move out of the pocket bought time to complete passes. But we can disagree. I think things shifted so quickly that the coaches, players, and some fans were caught by surprise.

If he were coaching to win, Beathard would have been the starter all year.
