Bowl game

I realize Iowa still needs to win one more game but let's say they do and finish the year 6-6.

My question is since the Big Ten has 8 bowl slots (includes 1 BCS team) and will probably only get 1 team in the BCS and have 7 others bowl eligible could a 6-6 Iowa jump a 7-5 team since there are 7 bowl games and only 7 teams eligible for these games. Here is the rule:

The Capital One, Outback, and Gator Bowls can select any eligible team except a team that has two fewer wins or two more losses than another eligible team. The Insight, TicketCity, Texas and Little Caesar's Pizza Bowls have no such restrictions, However, the bowls cannot select a 6–6 team if a 7–5 or better team is not selected by a Big Ten-affiliated bowl

Basically can a 6-6 Iowa jump say a 7-5 Illinois to the TicketCity Bowl and send Illinois to the Little Caesar's Bowl since Illinois would be the only remaining bowl eligible team left meaning all 7-5 teams would get selected?

I think they could if you have 2 bowl games left to choose and only 2 teams left to pick from meaning both teams will get selected.

Not the way I understand it. This was discussed on the postgame show a couple of weeks ago. They said that all 7+ win teams must be chosen before a 6 win team may be chosen. This is only true for 6 win teams (a 7 win team could be taken before an 8 win team).

I don't believe so, because theticket city picks first. If it passes on Illinois it can't pick a B10 team I believe. May be wrong, just what I think it is.

That is what I thought as well, but the language in that is confusing. The way I was reading it was since there are 7 bowl slots and if you have 7 teams eligible every team will get picked so if a bowl passes on a 7-5 team for a 6-6 team that 7-5 team will evenutally get picked.

I guess the Hawks just need to go win 2 more games and we won't have worry about having this discussion anyway.

When you are down to the dregs like this, does it really matter? 10 people will go to these games, all parents of players. Hopefully it will be a wakeup call to the athletic dept. that the golden goose is getting a little cooked.

Of course, we are not even in position to go to one of these top tier post season games.

If not going to a bowl game this year is what this staff needs to make some real changes, then I'd rather see us go 5-7 this year. I have a bad feeling if we go 7-5 and win a crappy bowl game nothing will change.

2 things--I don't think Purdue or Northwestern will win 6 games, thus I don't believe the Big Ten will have 8 bowl eligible teams. I think the Big Ten will have two BCS teams. That would mean that only the Cap One, Outback, Gator, Insight, and Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas will be filled by Big Ten schools.

If those two things hold true, I think the question will be Insight vs. Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.

Little Ceasars bowl here we come and well the brakes beat off us when we play either Toledo, Temple, or Northern Illinois.

No way big Ten getting two into the BCS this year.

Boise
2 SEC - LSU, Bama
2 Big XII - Okie State, Oklahoma
Big East - someone who's gonna lose by a lot
ACC - Clemson
Big 10 - wisky or Nebbie
2 Pac 10 - Oregon, Stanford

Lets assume we get two wins, instead of one, this year.

Which two do we win? I suppose our best chance for two wins is at home. I think we split the the home games, Mich and Mich St. and split the away games, Purdue and NE.

What say you?

1) No way in hell a 2 loss Big Ten team gets an at large bid to a BCS bowl.

2) Purdue or NW don't have to win six games to have 8 bowl eligible teams:
Illinois currently with 6 wins
OSU currently have 5 wins with Indiana this week so they will have 6 wins
PSU
Wisc
Neb
MSU
Mich
Iowa

That is 8 teams right there. Plus if Purdue beats Iowa there is a very good chance they end up with 6 wins because they have 4 right now with Iowa and Indiana to close the season.

So with only one of the above 8 making a BCS game that leaves 7 teams at 6-6 or better for these 7 bowls:
Cap One
Outback
Gator
Insight
Meineke Car Care
TicketCity
Little Ceaser's

If Nebraska or Michigan ends with 2 losses, they will be in a BCS game. They are historic teams with tradition and travel well. And who else is going to end up with 2 teams, the ACC or Big East?

Highly unlikely the Big Ten gets 2 teams into the BCS this year. I sure hope the game at Purdue is not a show down for the Pizza Bowl.

Isn't the Big 10 Champ an automatic BCS Bowl pick? If the winner of the championship game has two losses (like the Hawks), they are in!!

There is also a chance that Wisconsin could finish 10-2, winning out and giving PSU their only conference loss, but still not winning their division. They would then be a very appealing at-large BCS team.

It is also extremely unlikely, but possible, that PSU could run the table in the regular season but lose the B1G title game to finish at 11-2. Again, quite the enticing at-large BCS pick at that point.
