Bowl Game

Would a win in a bowl game vs. good team change anyones outlook on this season? 8-5?

Still a dissappointment I realize, but would it put even a small hint of a silver lining?

Yes, of course a bowl win would help everyone forget the past 3 games.

The problem is: Can this team come up with 100% effort?

We didn't see that today. It was hard to watch

a few weeks separation from the actual outcomes should improve their outlook. These hawks can still tie the record of 3 straight bowl wins, and the younger players should want to win for that same reason to continue the streak. If we go anywhere from 8-5 to 10-3 with a bowl win next year Ferentz & staff will have yet set another milestone at Iowa and will still be doing what they do best. Next year set's up nicely....let's win one for this record setting class who saw the depths of '06 their FR/Redshirt FR years, go out with a bang.

I have defended this coach and this team all year. Today I was ashamed to be an Iowa fan. We didn't give the effort that Iowa teams usually give. Something is missing this year -- Norm Parker? Something is missing.

Perhaps we can get some injured LBs back and play better in the bowl game. I don't care about the winning and losing at this point -- we need maximum effort from our team. Today was disgraceful. The team looked disinterested and so did the coaching staff.

Guys, we want to be proud of you again. Make us proud in the bowl game!!

Dude, I get it the whole glass half full thing, there isn't anything really to salvage from this season. We'll root and cheer in the bowl game, but the stench from this season will still be there. It is what it is at this point.

Problem is we wont be playing a good team. It could be a bowl win but nationally it wont mean anything. Hopefully it would make the fans happy but we will have to see if the team wants to play or if they do what they did today and just go through the motions.

This will be just like the Texas game a few years ago but I will not fall for it again. Remember that game we lost after an inspired effort, Ferentz cried, and we all felt like Ferentz finally broke through to the team.

Well several seasons later nothing has changed and we had one good year where all the breaks fell our way.

Also, we will probably throw in some half assed trick play to make us think KOK has finally quit running George Halas' playbook.

Im not gonna fall for it.

Welcome to the real world.

i will go on record and say today that i will not cheer for the hawks if they get rid of KF, he is our coach for the next 10 years, and we are friggin lucky. I do not care what people say, but KF loses with class and wins with class. He is the most respected coach in the country and his uncanny ability will only be recognized long after he is gone. He epitomizes Iowa Values. In Kirk I Trust.

Iowa should petition the Big Ten to allow Indiana or Minnesota to take Iowa's place in a bowl game. The Hawkeyes don't want to go, don't deserve to go, and forcing them to go will only extend the nightmare.

Let a team with some heart and some enthusiasm go to a bowl game. Indiana beat Purdue yesterday. Minnesota beat Iowa. Either of those teams would be a better representative than this unfortunate Iowa team.

I'd much rather let Minny or Indiana take our bowl slot then let this mess go out and lose again. A bowl win would do nothing for me, this season is still an incredible failure.

why is it that when we as men try to "handicap" football games and prognosticate as best we can we will use:

-close losses
-emotional games
-compounded stress of hype/expectations/proceding games

in order to predict what may happen in any given game;
.
.
.
but somehow Iowa is immune from this? Iowa lost two weeks ago all hopes for a BCS game (an obvious preseason goal *see all three bullet points above). we then lose focus and for a multitude of other reasons. This is a very good team.

No. This is a very talented team with a quitter mentality.

And therefore not good. Not good at all.

Perhaps a good "team" individually...certainly not a good team collectively.

Bowl game? Hell, there's 35 bowl games for 120 1A teams. That's 58% of teams who in theory could go to one.

Anything below the Outback bowl is nothing more than a Chamber-of-Commerce bowl....an Obama bowl...the rich bowls subsidizing the lesser bowls so "everyone can play." It's a sham.

Why go to a bowl game?
Prestige? Read above
Money? We'll lose money
More practice? For whom? The losers who don't want to be there anyway?
Fans? I guess so...if you're into spending a couple of grand to watch a 7-5 team play a 6th ranked team from the SEC or a 4th ranked team from the Big-XII.
Recruiting? Yeah right.
National exposure? Yeah right.

No, there is no conceivable advantage to playing in a bowl game this year.

I say go to the bowl game, but do not take any of the starters or seniors. Let all the backups go and get the bowl practice and let them play. We might actually see some heart, desire, and effort from the team then. But these starters and seniors absolutely do not deserve to go to the bowl game.

Visible signs of the coaching staff coaching their hearts out and all players playing their hearts out would go wonders for our fan base. If that can be demonstrated in a bowl game, then great. If our fan base has to watch what appears to be some players quitting and the coaching staff not seeming to care, then I don't want to watch another game this season.

i do appreciate the hawks who gave their all every play of every game, the practices, etc. They are what make being a hawk fan worth it. I, along with many of us, have allowed the quitters to overshadow the players who gave their all.

I made it to every home game and only missed the @ AZ (work schedule), @ Indy (daughter was visiting me in IC) game, and @ scUM (because I had Wisky/OSU tix....or else I would have gone).

Have spent thousands of dollars this year following Iowa. Sat in blazing hot weather (Eastern ILL), plain rain (BSU), miserable rain/wind (NW) and 18 degree temps with snow all over the seats (Minney). Hosted several out-of-towners throughout the season and took six people to their first Iowa game ever.

Just got back from 11 hours/650 miles of travel in 24 hours to go to Minneapolis.

After suffering through that "I quit" performance yesterday, I too have quit, and won't be following this team to any bowl game.

Since the team quit, i say we as fans should give up on the team too and not show up and support them at the bowl games. I hate quitters
