Booing Brust? I thought we didn't want him anyway.

I'm confused. Seriously, it's a bad move by the crowd. It sounds a little bush league. It's right up there with the "overrated" chant.

I didn't mind it. The kid burns Iowa for Wisky. I mean that's kind of bad. Nobody likes it. I'm not usually a fan of booing, but at least people care about the hawks. Also they switched to the airball chant pretty early.

Not the crowd, the student section. They always do whatever they want.

...but of course they were giving Brust a hard time. At one time he had committed to be a Hawk, then changed his mind and joined the enemy.

To be honest, with the lack of student support over the Lick years, I was shocked the students even knew who he was or his history.

Brust didn't just commit to the Hawkeyes, he had signed his LOI, and then asked for a release when Lick left.

Dumping the Hawks for another B1G team, yeah, he knew what he was in for and yep, he got it.

Not saying I agree with the students chant, but it certainly isn't surprising.

He was more than committed....

he had signed a LOI. He decided to ask out after Lickliter was canned. Don't blame him, players ask out of LOI's all the time if/when a coaching change is made.

But the B1G changed its own rules to allow Brust to be on scholarship at Wisconsin. B1G rules previously did not allow players that transferred from one school to another in conference to be on scholarship. Wisky appealed to conference on Brust's behalf (and won).

So all in all, I have no animosity toward Brust but to expect that he not get booed by the Iowa students is a bit much.

I liked it. The kid committed to Iowa, signed an LOI and then bailed when he had the opportunity. In the end, it worked out better for Iowa and Wisky. Had Lick not been fired, Brust would have been a Hawkeye and we would still be bottom feeding.

Nothing bush league about it IMO. It's called playing on the road in the Big Ten.

Under the circumstances, booing a player that decommitted from your team to go and play for the team next door, I think that's fair game. I wouldn't have held it against ISU fans if they boo'ed Haluska when Iowa played @ISU..

Um, it was more than just bailing Iowa for Wisky. There was rumors of talk out of the Brust camp about supposed "bad mouthing" of Lick and the prior regime from the current Iowa coaches.

I'm confused. Should we keep Carver as quiet and friendly as can be for opposing teams? Perhaps the students should have done a cordial chant for him? Something along of the lines of "Your always a Hawkeye to us Ben Brust!"

Give the opponents hell!!!

Of course resorting to an extreme position to try to make a point is always an effective rebuttal.

I get why the crowd booed, I just think we're better than that response. So he left, BFD. Booing him almost gives him more legitimacy, like the "overrated" chant demeans the significance of an upset win. That's all.

The B10 didn't change their own rule, Dodger, they made an exception to the rule. Kind of like when they pretty much always give guys that had injury issues in more than one season or that weren't detected properly an extra year to play---except in Jared Reiner's case. They didn't change this rule so everyone would benefit from it, they just decided to stick it to Iowa because we sucked and were irrelevant.

Welcome to Northwestern's world from the whenever until the 2000s.

We finally get some crowd support and a little CHA energy going and now you want to go all Emily Post on it.
Do you really want to go back to the games where little blue haired old ladies are sitting courtside with their crochet needles going, giving polite little golf claps for made free throws?

I thought it was fantastic, and I want to thank everyone who was there. It was awesome!

I think your over thinking it. Carver has been a morgue for years. To hell with Ben Brust and anyone around the country who thinks to themselves, "Boy that reaction to by Iowa was bush league." Trust me no one outside of Iowa and Wisconsin was paying that close attention. And just how does the students riding him, give him any more legitimacy than Bo Ryan putting him on the court? Really?

Correction, I don't think he's thinking at all.
