Bobby Hansen says Fran was his #1 choice

Right now on Murph and Andy. Says B.J. and Forbes were on the "list". But Fran had everything the committee was looking for. Recruiting the right way, head coach experience and rebuilding among other qualities.

Finalists were Fran McCaffery, Brian Gregory and Doug Wojcik. Bobby said that if Fran and then #2 guy turned offer down then they would have reconvened and considered B.J. Armstrong. Discussed "wish list" of Bruce Pearl, Jamie Dixon, Lon Kruger, etc. but when the search firm reached out to their agents they were asking for gobs of $$$, much more than Kirk Ferentz.

Fran came to Barta and said he WANTED the job. Turned down St. Johns, Seton Hall and Georgia Tech (had Hewitt left) to take Iowa job.

Just interesting points I picked up. I'll post podcast when available. This was a good show. Also talked to a reporter from NY area about his thoughts on Fran - very impressive!

If they were asking for that much money, it is HIGHLY likely that the only interest in the job was to get a huge raise from their current employer.

Smart move not to entertain that.

We are all experts until proven wrong. I thought Iowa should do all they could to get Pearl but you can't give him more than Ferentz. That means Ferentz needs a raise too. The money just wouldn't work out.

Yeah but honestly Pearl would be worth it (in all likelyhood...Captain Kirk is getting a raise after next season anyways...) But still Fran is definitely better than the rest...but Pearl would've been SPECIAL.

But I'm not complaining!!!! Love this guy's passion!

There are some things in Pearl's package that would probably mean that he will never coach at Iowa, and it isn't the Marcus Liberty affair. In all reality, he was never going to be an option.
