Bob Knight to Iowa?

Who would buy season tickets if Knight came out of the ESPN studio to roam the Iowa sidelines? I have a feeling he would LOVE to win in Bloomington for at least a couple of years.

Hiring Knight would fill Carver tomorrow. We can debate him all day long but it would be a HUGE media grabber and immediately put a national spotlight on Iowa City.

I'm pretty sure, Bobby Knight's not looking for a program rebuilding job right now. I think he may coach again, but it'll be alot better situation then what Iowa is going to be in.

Hall of Fame coach that won at Texas Tech, of all places, keeps his guys out of trouble and graduating and doesn't cheat? There is ZERO excitement in the program right now. None.

The current players just aren't very good and next year's recruiting class is the same (notwithstanding the fact that some Hawk fans keep thinking of these 6'3 shooting guards come to Iowa every year as great players). Bob Knight would change this.

I realize that calling the current players mediocre or not very good or whatever sends a lot of fans over the edge on these message boards, but is it even arguable -either objectively (wins/losses) or subjectively (actually being able to sit through an entire game)?

I'm pretty sure Bobby Knight isn't interested in coming to a program that treated one of his former players the way Iowa did.

Like Texas Tech?

Not that this is ever going to happen, but I don't think Knight was necessarily opposed to rebuilding jobs. And please don't tell me how great of a job Texas Tech was before he took that job.

yeah but, TT colors had red as a dominant color... so Bobby didn't need to go out and buy more sweaters. :D

You seriously misunderstand the U of Iowa administration, faculty, alumni, regents if you are making this proposal other than tongue-in-cheek. On just about every imaginable criteria or relevant consideration, Bobby is anathema to everyone involved at Iowa.

No, the guy was never Tarkanian. Or Floyd Or Huggins.

But he might just as well have been given how he is perceived at the BT universities. He is seen as virtually certain trouble sooner or later---most likely sooner.

Understanding this begins by recognizing the implications of the fact that the IU president who forced him out was quickly chosen to the head of the NCAA. College administrators--perhaps with good reason--consider him a bully-type, a guy who tries to intimidate students, faculty, players, assistants, even his AD & staff.

I'm a big Knight fan, but I think that's a pretty far-fetched scenario.

Knight is almost 70 years old. I think he enjoys what he's doing now - and he's very good at it. Today's world is much less tolerant of the way Bob coaches, and I think he's probably relieved to be away from all the scrutiny now.

If and when the TV thing ends my guess is he'll go back to being a golf instructor.
