Many of you remember Bob from his days as a sportswriter at the Des Moines Register and also his gravely voice at the JOCK radio station. Bob was a veteran of Vietnam and was exposed there many times to Agent Orange. That horrible chemical led to heart problems and to Bob going blind. Yet even with these problems, he spent considerable time in Dubuque caring for his mother who had Alzheimer's. His mother passed a month or so ago. Therefore, his work was done and Bob passed last weekend.
I responded to his wife, Mary Pat, when she posted the news on Facebook. All my calls to Bob in the last few months had not been answered. She said that he could not see the numbers and therefore never answered the phone.
He was a good friend and work associate. Bob was a GREAT storyteller. Hawkeyes, Cardinals and Packers. He knew them all
Rest in peace, my friend.
