Blind Rodent Finds A Nut Game Thread

I'm starting a thread from the banks of the Oletangy River in a place I'm visiting for the first time-Columbus, Ohio.

I will be able to get a first hand look at our enemy to the northeast as they attempt to put behind them last week's meltdown, with a date in the Big Shoe.

They are predicting late showers for the Iowa/Northwestern game. They are predicting a gullywasher here in Columbus. Whether or not that slows Ohio State down and benefits Wisconsin remains to be seen.

More reports to come, I'll be among 105,000+ I what may be the biggest gathering of humanity I've ever experienced in my life!

It is really a great venue. The pre-game stuff is amazing! I am not a band guy, but was really impressed with their “script” and doting the “I”. The fans know football, but are also the most arrogant I have experienced in my travels to all 14 BT stadiums.

If Ohio State could dot the "I" in victory it would help Iowa's cause quite a bit.

Urb will be in town. I wonder if he will get the honor of dotting the I.

I'm down to one child in the house, and he is in high school. It's time to start visiting these venues I've watched on TV all these years. Hoping to make it to the Gophs home game with Iowa next year, or maybe come back down here.

Weren't you at Woodstock?

Light drizzle in Columbus. Bill Murray has assured us that the heavy stuff isn't coming down for a while.

Why are you in Columbus. It's sacralidge. You are the modern Benedict Arnold. May bother the Buckeyes and Bucky lose by 85 points.

You just can't trust any one anymore. When did you last give up 18 hours to travel for the Hawks for a Big game? So disappointing. Arnold was highly thought of too ya know.

Sounds like I’m heading to Lincoln this year

One question...are you wearing Hawkeye gear?

I'll probably be in bed by then... Been a lot of rain here today. Friend of mine takes states at Memorial Stadium... He said that the Illini were noticeably more aggressive on both sides of the line against your Badgers.... Illinois does have some talent. Pretty well kept secret.

I live in a divided house. My wife and kids are Badgers. I am not, and it will be a civil war in two weeks.

Speaking of Champaign, I was expecting to get wet, but the remnants of a tropical storm? It's wild out here on I-74.

BTW, "my" Badgers didn't put up much of a pillow fight down there. More on that later.

Ya it's been pretty wet all day. Got home about 8. Didn't see any Badgers. Not sure which would be worse....a Badger wife or an football hater like mine. She was born in CA and she's been to the parade when the Hawks Rosed back in the day.

I hope KF doesn't try and have a low scoring game against the Illini.

How many motor speedways did you count in Indy? A mom from here told her daughter counted 4 driving to Columbus. Round and round...

Well here's what Wiscy did well, and not well today.

  • Center Tyler Biadasz is a beast getting to the edge and flattening d-backs. You can bet you see some of that in two weeks.
  • They seemed to be running more zone blocking stretch plays this game, but they couldn't get linemen to the second level. OSU's lb's were blowing up plays, and turning Taylor back into the wash.
  • Forget his running skills, you want to see a real treat watch Jonathon Taylor blow up a blitzing linebacker.
  • Orr is a beast. He will be tough to contain. That other lb Zach Baun had no trouble staying with receivers and backs in Leo coverage. I'm afraid he's going to be all over the field against us.
  • Badger fans behind us were badmouthing Wisconsin's special teams all day. There is where we may have a legit edge and an opportunity to make a play.
  • Bucky's receivers disappointed me. Coan had to take some sacks because they couldn't get open with adequate time, and (imagine this) Taylor had big gain opportunities short circuited because those receivers didn't block downfield very well.
  • Burrell or Fahon Hicks, don't remember which one, missed a pick six, which would have given Badgers the lead, by about six inches. That was the turning point. Wisconsin did little right after that.
  • OSU stuck to their RPO even though it didn't pay early dividends. But by the third quarter they were simply gouging the Badgers right up the gut. Dobbins converted key third downs all day. Speed and athleticism eventually made the difference.
  • To have a chance, were going to have to stay out of down and distance, hit a big play or two, force turnovers, and win special teams. We cannot let them grind us all day. I think our defense will give them a good test, but can we eke out enough points.
  • Biggest surprise take of the day? Not impressed with Wiscy's receivers. They don't work to get open and they don't block downfield.

I just got tickets to Whiskey game and am heading to Madison for third time in a row with my step-son. Couldn't pull the trigger for 3 1/2 hour drive to Evenston. Glad I didn't. Had to sign up at Whiskey Ticket Office, but at least I didn't have to donate any money. Felt a little dirty. Watching Notre Dame getting donkey punched by Michigan, does this make Iowa better than ND by the powers of associative scores? This is why ND doesn't join the Big, they would be just another Indiana.

I'll be there as well. My first Iowa-Wisconsin game in Madison in 22 years.
