Billy Donovan as the Iowa Coach?

Just another rumor with no validity to it at all.

I feel like people just get bored, so they make up rumors. Or people are just really gullible and are being played pretty badly.

I truly think some are completely delusional about how bad this situation is. Do people really think this is an "elite" job? Because its not...and its really not even close.

If you judge this program because of the last three years, you are probably right. It hasn't been an elite program. Prior to that and going all the way back to the late 60's Iowa was one of the most respected programs in the country. They were always tough on the elite programs and had their share of wins. John Wooden once said, and I believe it was 1970, that Iowa was the one team he didn't want to play in the NCAA tournament. He got his wish when Pembrook Burrows tip in a basket at the buzzer to let Jacksonville University beat Iowa I believe 106-104 to keep Iowa out of the final four. The Ronnie Lester years were some of the best basketball in the country. We have had the respect of the nation even halfway through the Alford era. Can we get back to that level? Of course we can. We will make a giant step next year regardless of the coach. We are a top 20 program over the last 50 years and we will return to that level.

It has been a lot more than three years since Iowa could be considered an elite basketball program. It hasn't even won an NCAA Tournament game since 2001.

LOL

That doesn't make them an elite program in the 21st century. Hell the 90's weren't anything that made Iowa elite either.

Teams that are elite are the North Carolina and Dukes of the college basketball world. Not Iowa, so stop living in the past.

Its the 21st century and we haven't done much of anything in many years.

Saying that because we were good 40-50 years ago means that were elite today is completely ignorant.

If thats the case, then Minnesota football should be on par with the elite college football programs.

I heard Roy Williams, and Harrison Barnes plus the other great NC bound players would come to Iowa...ha

It's people like you who help make this a bad job to take. Who wants to coach a school where many fans have unrealisticlly high expectations. Nobody gives a crap about how good we were before the 90's. The recruits today weren't even alive back when we were an elite program. Recrutis today are only going to care about your history over the last 10 years or so. Another guy made a great comparison with the Minnesota football team. Nobody calls them an elite program anymore. Non of their fans are even dumb enough to expect them to be elite every year because they were great a long time ago. Wake up to the present! Stop living in the distant past.

I heard that rumor on another board, then it came to this board, then it changed its mind and went back to the other board.

I think people are just throwing out names and whichever name is chosen by Barta, someone can claim they knew it all along.

LOL. You know after the hire is made that people will be searching their posts and bumping them to the top.ESPECIALLY if its me ;)

I would be curious to know what Donovans contract status is. This could be just a move to get an extension and get more money.

I dont know why in the world he would want to leave Florida and come to Iowa.

Supposedly it is the challenging of rebuilding a program.

I can understand that. He's rich. He's won multiple national titles so what is left to keep the coaching fire burning? Maybe to take a downtrodden (but not hopeless) team in a major conference and build them into a Final Four team?

Would I take him as coach? Sure. Do I think it likely he would really come to Iowa? Nope.

Darn, you beat me to that Minnesota punch lol. Can't forget to include Notre Dame football in that category, either.

We were an elite program up through MAYBE the early '90s. After that, we were just good, like Texas, Ohio State, Purdue, and Wisconsin are now. Those are very good teams, and very good programs, but not elite. Elite is having a down year every now and again (UNC), but having consistently elite years (25+ wins) as well. That would be the bluebloods of CBB (Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, etc.). We are not one of those bluebloods. Wanna know why? Cause we don't wear blue uniforms like those schools ;)

Show me a school that doesn't want a national championshio for themselves and I'll show you dead people. While we're at it can we lose the "it's people like you" diatribes! We're pretty much all Hawkeyes here!!
