The strikezone is bigger for the first pitch of an at bat and when the count is full. I say you have to swing the bat you dont leave it up to the ump.
It was a ball but Butler was trying to act as though it almost hit him and thats far from the case. It was one ball length inside when they showed the strikezone tracker during the game.
Also a walk in that situation doesnt do anything really for KC. It sets up an easy double play.
In the end you want your clean up guy to swing the bat not try to get a walk in the 9th on a closer thats having a ton of problems.
During my playing time I never had problems with umps because I didnt make them decide whether I got on base or not. Thats my take and I would feel the same way no matter what team it happened to.
