Bill Simmons Is The Best

I love him, and it helps that I love the NBA almost as much as he does. I wish he talked more about college sports, but since he grew up in New England, I can understand that he cares a lot more about the pros.
Edit: I appreciate that he can be funny and smart while being almost completely apolitical. He does a good job avoiding controversy that isn't sports generated.

He's great. He sometimes makes me hate Boston even more but he makes me laugh in every column.

Me too but you have to remember that he is just a homer fan like the rest of us only he happens to have a large platform to express his opinions. The only times i get annoyed is when he acts like he is objective when it is pretty blatant that he isnt

I love it when he takes jabs at Lakers fans. It reminds me of Iowa/ISU fans.

His paragraph in his latest column telling Ron Artest to keep shooting, he was a great player, and not to take any crap from Kobe or Phil was great.
 
I love how much he clearly loves the NBA. He gets into the fabric of the league, lives and breathes it...not just a casual observer like many writers.
 
About the only thing Simmons does that I don't like is talk about reality TV...I've never gotten into it so not interested, but otherwise his columns are a highlight of sports reading. As a side note: He's got the best job imaginable right? Attend about any sporting event you want (and get paid for it). Rub shoulders with big wigs in Sports (and get paid for it). Smack talk teams you don't like (and get paid for it). Who wouldn't want that job?
 
Big fan. Just wish he'd write more columns and stop with all the podcasts. It's just not a medium that is appealing to me.
 
If I am a NBA team owner, why wouldn't you let this guy be the GM of your team?!?!? Who knows/cares more about the NBA than him? Seriously, if you are Minnesota, why not give him a shot....your team freakin blows!! Could he make it any worse?

I think Simmons and ESPN got into a big argument a few years ago i'm guessing because he was writing things that they deemed as "out of bounds" so they came up with a comprimise: podcasts. He can pretty much say whatever he wants in those (without swearing obviously)

As for Simmon's having the best job in the world...absolutely.

Get paid to watch sports...check

Get paid to talk/hang out with athletes...check

Get paid to trash talk and rub it in...check

Get paid to talk with your buddies about anything you want to talk about...check

Get to do all of the above without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home unless you want to go catch a game...check.
 
I love his columns, i dont check as much as i should but a very good writer, and not afraid to display his affection for the northeast.
