[FONT=minion-pro, Georgia, serif]Wisconsin and Nebraska are still the recruiting "powerhouses" of the West. Both still get 4-stars with relative ease and recruit at a national level. It would be really beneficial if Iowa could get to that point. As well as we develop lower-level talent, it would be nice to be able to recruit talent that's already been developed and implement that into our lineup and have recruits with immediate impact.

From my Nebraska and Wisconsin friends:
Nebraska will likely sign about 8 4-star recruits when NSD is complete. Including the #1 OG, #9 S, #5 CB, #9 QB, #14 OT giving them a Top 25 class.
Wisconsin will likely sign about 5, maybe 6 4-star recruits when NSD is complete. Including the #15 DT, #15 OT, #19 ATH giving them close to a Top 25 class

Iowa will more than likely finish with 0 (!!) 4-star recruits unless we steal away Matt Farniok (OT from South Dakota) who is actually only a 4-star according to 247 and ESPN.

This just kind of annoys me in the sense that it seems like we don't even really attempt to recruit at a national level. Or we do, we just strike out with the top talent that Nebraska and Wisconsin are able to so easily get from all over the country.

This was just interesting to me to look at the Top 3 recruits committed at this moment for each B1G West school and how different each class is.

Seth Green never went to college before Family guy and those old movies so he has eligibility left?

Nah, Seth green is the short redhead guy from the nineties teen movies who does the voice of Chris on Family Guy.

You can't yell from the mountain tops that you want your coach fired and then be surprised the recruiting that year wasn't great.

If it's not better next year, then it's time to complain.

I don't think its just a problem this year though. We've never been able to attract lots of 4-star and 5-star talent for whatever reason. I think we underachieve in our recruiting abilities. Not saying we should have Top 25 classes every year but we should be able to at least compete with the recruits Wisconsin and Nebraska are getting every year

that's not really true, especially if you're comparing Iowa and Wisconsin's recruiting efforts over the Ferentz era. For the most part, you'll find them within a few spots of each other in a given year with a few odd years where one school's recruiting ticks up. I actually think Iowa might be a tick better in average recruiting rankings than Wisconsin, at least since 2002.

I think you've spent too much time in Omaha.

When was the last time we landed a consensus 4 star recruit? Jaleel Johnson? Faith Ekatatie?

I think you've spent too much time in Ottumwa, wherever that is. This is since 2010: Too lazy to go back all the way to 2002. But you're right, we have recruited a little bit better than Wisconsin with the exception of the last 3 recruiting classes
Last 6 years:

2015 (NEB 29th, WISC 40th, Iowa 60th)
2014 (WISC 33rd, NEB 36th, Iowa 59th)
2013 (NEB 22nd, WISC 38th, Iowa 58th)
2012 (NEB 27th, Iowa 40th, WISC 65th)
2011 (NEB 16th, Iowa 27th, WISC 39th)
2010 (NEB 27th, Iowa 39th, WISC 45th)

Average of:
NEB (26th)
WISC (43rd)
Iowa (47th)

Wisconsin and Nebraska doing a little better in recruiting isn't too big of a surprise.

Nebraska is no longer the powerhouse they once were but up until this year, they were averaging 9-10 wins per season for about 5-6 years under Pelini. They struggled in big games and suffered some embarrassing losses in the Pelini era, but they were consistent. After going to the Lincoln for the last game of the season this year and as much as I'd hate to say it, it was a pretty cool experience even though it was in the mid 20's temperature wise. The athletic facilities from the outside looked pretty solid as well (I can't imagine they'd be poor on the inside). Due to location (and everything that comes with it) and the overall changing college football landscape, they can't recruit with the elites, but they can still attract talented players.

Wisconsin (gulp) has a stronger track record of winning that Iowa does. That's really the only major difference between the programs to me in the eyes of recruits. Since Alverez has been there, they have consistently been a rank quality team that finds itself in the conference championship talk year in and year out. And they've established an identity along the way over the course of almost two decades. To me, Wisconsin isn't anything that Iowa can't become and I think they could get there rather quickly (1-2 years). But it's important that Iowa takes advantage of this season and builds upon it the same way Wisconsin has rather than continue or trend of peaks and valley's in order to attract higher level recruits.

Agree with everything you said.

(As much as I hate to say it also) Nebraska's gameday atmosphere might be the coolest I've ever experienced. Even in 20 degree weather (worth it). The pregame video stuff they do with the entrance is really cool. Their fireworks/explosions scared the hell out of me but were freaking awesome. But yes, from what I've heard and seen in pictures there are few schools that have better facilities/locker room than Nebraska. Helps that they get 90,000+ every game, even in a 5-7 season. Hell, we went 12-0 and still only averaged 63k.

Wisconsin is also another great gameday atmosphere feel. I also enjoy their pregame video/entrance even though from what I can tell it's just about the same every year (kinda like what we do with the semi truck). They are a program that just has consistently reloaded no matter who they lost and I don't know how they do it. They don't out recruit us that much for how much they've been winning.

All these things definitely help their recruiting. But it doesn't mean we can't compete with the same recruiting talent.

Kinda cool.....found the 3 entrances from Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin on YouTube. All solid.

Iowa

Wisconsin

For Wisconsin, most recent video of the entrance I could find from inside the stadium was 2010 LOL....so apparently not a lot of people have recording devices in Wisconsin or they just don't like to record videos of their team's entrance.

Nebraska

It's time to switch sides. We see who you really are Darth Sidious. Take this propaganda elsewhere. Id rather remove 2 ribs and suck my own Cawk before I pop off Nebraska. I'm happy it makes you happy but this is a Hawkeyes form keep this trash in Nebraska where it belongs with the rest of the trash!

Lmao don't kill yourself dude. Sorry I don't have the ungodly hatred of Nebraska/Wisconsin you for whatever reason have. Sorry I admire other football programs of the Big Ten (Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, OSU, PSU) and like to explore their gameday experiences and how they operate.

There is life beyond Kinnick Stadium believe it or not.

For the record, this is a 'Big Ten West' forum that I created.

I really couldn't give two sh!ts about your opinion to be honest.

It is pretty simple. Iowa recruits better when they win, in that they get higher recruiting service ranked kids. If Iowa can win 9+ games again this year, recruiting will be better for '17 and '18. Same with Wisconsin, they recruit better when they win. Nebraska has a much better tradition and name and will recruit better than either Iowa or Wisconsin for the foreseeable future.

With a closer look you can also see that some real differences lie with recruiting success at the skill positions when comparing IA, WI, and NE in recent history. We all know our limitations at WR but the RB position is an enigma. Think I read recently that Ferentz has had only two RB's drafted during his entire career as HC at Iowa.

Completely agree with everything in this. I think the 2016 season put our name back on the map for recruits. But the key is to sustain success and move forward. Finish out the 2016 class strong and start building the 2017 one early that could have a lot of potential. But on-the-field success is more important to Iowa's recruiting than it is for Wisconsin and Nebraska in my opinion.
