Big Ten tourny action:

It was almost a relief to watch actual bb action tonite and enjoy some hard fought hoops rather than focusing on Iowa's disasterous season and the fallout.

Today was an incredible day of big ten bb games...all were close, and tightly contested thruout cept for Wisky /Illini.

Tonites MSU /Minny game was a classic. Izzo benched Chris Allen for the game due to disciplinary issues, and it did hurt them tonite.
Minny had a narrow lead thruout, but you always knew that MSU would charge back. They did come back from a ten point deficit with 4 minutes to go to tie it up late...and it went OT.

MSU charged out in OT to a quick three point lead and minny looked dead, but Devoe Joseph hit a falling away three pointer and then another from about 30 ft...and somehow Minny took charge.

This game reminded me of Iowa/MSU in 05 in the BTT...a bloodbath that left both teams barely able to walk off the court afterward.

Minny absolutely needed this game to get that bid,and played with desperation all nite.
Devoe Joseph is a flat stud as a soph. He had 17 points in the second half and OT...and he made many huge shots. If his highly touted younger brother, a 6'5'' pg,joins Devoe at minny look out.
The other star for Minny was Colt Iverson...kid is just coming on gangbusters. What a luxury to have Sampson and Iverson the next two years...Sampson was not good tonite, but Iverson is just a bull in there and has good hands and is a good passer. Folks say that Cougill outplayed Inverson in AAU but I would trade in a heartbeat.

Tubby pulled it out for his 20th win...he has won 20 in 17 straight years...wow...I would kill for him to be the head coach at Iowa.
I think he is tough on his kids but they really respect and see him as a father figure. They want to please him with their play.
I know it is heretical, but I am rooting for Tubby and minny to make the tourny. I like their team spirit...as demonstrated when they shaved their heads for Carters sister with cancer...they seem like a real team, even with some issues with White, and Nolen...

NW gave Purdue everything they could handle...but Purdue just plays too good of defense and Moore/Johnson are too much for NW.
Minny vs PU...this is gonna be tough on Minny after two games in two days, and MSU just beats the heck outta ya.

OSU vs Illini ....McCamey vs Turner again...Hope OSU kicks their butt.

Agree with everything you said, JHH. It was a reminder -- as if one were needed -- of how far Iowa hoops have fallen and the need to bring in a new coach who can compete.

Great day of action.

MN should be in now and IL probably moved up in the seeding with yet another great win.

I worry about Purdue in the big dance. They are just not the same team and if Johnsom gets into foul trouble against a quality team they are done.

How far can Evan Turner carry the Buckeyes??? That guy is superman!

Turner was awesome.

Don't know why Michigan is sitting back in a 1-3-1 on that last play instead of pressuring the in-bounds pass or at least going one-on-one with Turner -- they had to know that's where the ball is going. But he did a great job getting the ball up the floor, setting his feet and launching it.

Absolutely agree. The one and only thing that should have come out of the Michigan huddle is deny Turner the ball or at least make him get it coming back to their own basket so he does not have momentum going forward like he did. Michigan really blew that one and Turner made them pay. You just cannot let the best player in the country beat you and Michigan did just that.

It was an awesome day to watch the tourney. Wouldn't it have been great to have a dog in that fight yesterday. Trying to find a way to get out of work early to watch the game etc.....

It is also a reminder of the quality of big ten hoops. Whoever is coaching Iowa next year will face a big challenge.
