"It's been a great year. I love these guys. There's a bright future. We had a season here they haven't had in a while. We had a winning record, and we hadn't had that in a while. We beat four or five ranked teams. It's something to build on. It's been great. I love coach [Fran] McCaffery for the opportunity. I'm just really upset about the seniors going out this way.

"We beat Michigan, we beat Wisconsin, we beat Minnesota on the road, so obviously it's there. Just keep building on it. You keep that in the back of your mind in the off-season, but also keep the losses in your mind, knowing we had some bad losses this year we should have won.

"I came in with the mind-set of wanting to make an impact on this team. I think I did that. Maybe not as consistently early on as I think I could have, but it's a learning process. And I think I learned from every game, every practice. But this is a big off-season for me, and there's a lot to work on because I'm not nearly close to where I want to be. But you have to go through it. You have to play the games and get the mind-set of really learning what to do.

"I came in early and had a couple good games, but I wasn't there consistently. And then it kind of just clicked. Early on in the Big Ten season with the Wisconsin win, I had a good game [18 points], and I could tell what it took then. I prepared that way.

"I came in with the mind-set to earn that award [being named to the All-Freshman team]. It's not that I expected it, but I was working toward it. Obviously I'm a team-first guy, but it's good to get recognition for the work you're putting in.

"If I'm going to be playing the 4 [power forward] next season, which I think coach probably wants me to, I have to get a lot stronger, and that showed tonight. Draymond Green and Adreian Payne are big dudes. You can't go down there soft. So I'll put on weight and get more explosive.

"In the Big Ten in a year like this, 8-10 is good start. We've got nowhere to go but up."

Thanks for posting, this is excellent. I really.like White. Seems like he has his head on straight and has some aspirations. Looking forward to watching him the next three years.
Love me some flyin tomato.

holy crap fran said he is a 4 and now he has said it himself. somebody better tell both of them that herby says he is a 3 not a 4. they need to pay attention to the guru.

this is pretty cool. really enjoy watching him play and it will be great to see how he develops for next yr. i think he will be our #3 or 4 scorer while putting up more points. because marble and jo and gesell i believe will be challenging with aaron to be the top scorer on the team.

not sure, but i think he just confirmed my point, he was a 3 to start and the plan has been changed to make him a 4, either way he is going to be solid the next 3 years as i see no dropoff from this kid like we saw with Basabe.
to much drive and a better work ethic , with him to take a step back not to mention him knowing he needs to work more on getting better.
in my opinion Basabe had way to much hype last summer and he let it go to his head.

Herby, my biggest fear is that not being able to play in the CBI sends White into a deep depression and he loses all will to work out or play basketball. Your thoughts?

It sounds to me like every word he says could have also come from Fran's mouth as well. And that ain't a bad thing.

except that early in the yr he was coming in for basabe at the 4 and then later starting at the 4. his statement was one that he needs more strength to stay at the 4 like he IS.

i find it funny how if a college player has a bad yr or not as good of a yr as expected how everyone goes to work ethic and that the players doesnt have a good one or ego. unless you personally know how he works by seeing him or talking to coaches on the staff you dont know what his work ethic is like. and for all you know he is in the gym as much or more than aaron white. mel had a bad yr and i would bet he is harder on himself about it than anyone. sometimes when you struggle you over compensate and work hard and it hurts you more. you can say well a friend sees aw leave the gym at this time, well mel could still be inside or go for extra work at a different time. mel is good aw is better, but aw could take steps backwards next yr. it is possible. i hope not but it could happen, gatens took steps backwards as a soph (i personally thought) but i never question his work ethic or ego.
