They have White as a breakout player and Iowa projected to finish 6th in the B1G. From article:


3. Iowa’s actually good this year: The Hawkeyes are a group that you need to keep an eye on this season. They lose scorer Matt Gatens, but with a young, talented core returning — headlined by juniors Roy Devyn Marble and Melsahn Besabe and sophomore Aaron White — and a loaded freshmen class that includes top 100 recruits Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury, Fran McCaffery has a team that could legitimately make a run at the NCAA tournament.

Impact Newcomers:
2. Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury, Iowa: What Iowa has returning this season are wings, shooters and power forwards. Some of them are pretty good, too. What are they missing? A point guard and a center, and that’s precisely what Fran McCaffery landed with Gesell, the point guard, and Woodbury, the center. If these guys live up to the hype as freshmen, the Hawkeyes could be looking at a trip to the NCAA tournament.

Wow that echoes some sentiment from some folks on this forum. Especially the whole getting Gesell and Woodbury that fill exactly what the roster was lacking. The freshman class compliments what Iowa had returning so well and Iowa has some good players back, catch that players, not just one as has been with Gatens the last two seasons and nobody else.
 


Guy is picking Iowa to finish 6th in the league. That's the highest I've seen. Obviously he is correct.:eek:

I'm figuring the top 4 to be IN, MI, MSU, OSU (listed alphabetically for any order)

The next 3 will be IA, MN, WI with the order quite a battle. However, I'm wondering, with some of the turmoil up in Minneapolis, if IA and WI don't have an edge over MN right now.
 




What are the expectations for teams like purdue and illinois this season? God the B1G is loaded this season. No one is talking about those teams making the tourney but they have both recruited well and have talent as well as recent sucess.

I thought I'd compare, it looks like the games against each other will be very important. However looking at the 1st 6 Conf. games for each team also tells a tale depending on which side of 3-3 they fall.

If Wisconsin is at 3-3, I see 11 wins as their ceiling. (possibly favored in 4 of 6)
If Minnesota is at 3-3, I see 10 wins as their ceiling. (possibly favored in 3 of 6)
If Iowa starts out 3-3, I see 12 wins as their ceiling. (possibly favored in 1 of 6)

Iowa- (5 against top 4) (4 against bottom 2)

Who knows with Illinois' head coach. They lost Cryers Leonard, but Nana Egwu is a good player, and if he can make a jump and give Illinois a front court presence, they will be a pretty good team. They have a very good back court, maybe one of the best in teh BoneG, with Brandon Paul, DJ Richardson, Tracy Abrams, and (Drake transfer) Ravonte Rice.

Purdue also has the chance to be very good. I think they are becoming liek Wisconsin, in that the "system" they play means they can win no matter who the players are. They lose Hummel, and they're pretty young, but they have been recruiting well, and, much liek Iowa, it depends on how well their young talent plays right out of the gate.

Rice ain't playing this year Ghost. Brandon Paul is overrated, he's the definition of a volume scorer and one of the least efficient guards in the B10. Purdue has had a couple of good recruiting class last year, but had dreadful recruiting the 3-4 years before that. They won't be a factor this year.

Well, Purdue had a better class in 2010 (two top 100 players), and they had a better class this year. Not saying that they'll be better, but they have been recruiting just as well, if not better, than Iowa since Fran came.

Could you not tell from my context that I was talking about recruiting rankings? I said Purdue had two top 100 players in 2010, with Johnson ranked around 50, and Johnson ranked around 100. In 2010 and 2012, Purdue was ranked higher in recruiting than Iowa. That's not contrarian. That's a fact. I never said their players were better, nor did I say they were a better team. Someone asked how Purdue was going to look this year, and you guys apparently got upset I thought they "had a chance to be very good".

I think it is also fair to point out that all of the Iowa players you listed play a lot more than the Purdue players I listed. Johnson was Lewis Jackson's backup last year, and he is expected by most people to have a great season this year and take over as top scorer. Johnson, however, may be a bust. He redshirted and never seemed quite caught up last year.

Who the **** judges a recruiting class by their rankings, once the players have been, you know, playing in college for two years?
