Of course they have the boosiers at 1. From article:

12. Nebraska

11. Penn State

10. Northwestern

9. Illinois

8. Iowa…*There’s plenty to be excited about for Fran McCaffery as he enters his third season. The loss of Matt Gatens hurts, but nearly everyone else returns (most notably Roy Devyn Marble, Aaron White and Melsahn Basabe) and the Hawkeyes add a pair of top 100 recruits in Adam Woodbury and Mike Gesell. Iowa could be a sleeper for an NCAA Tournament bid.

7. Purdue

6. Minnesota

5. Wisconsin

4. Michigan State

3. Michigan

2. Ohio State

1. Indiana

I think Iowa has the potential to be better than Wisconsin and Purdue but I agree with most of the other rankings. Plus I don't mind Iowa being ranked #8 until they can prove they should be ranked higher.

OSU shouldn't be that high. Indiana, Michigan, and MSU are all Final Four contenders this year. There is a huge mid-tier this season between those teams and the bottom three, and it will be interesting to see how they all place.

We went a combined 6-5 against the teams that they have listed ahead of us (and the two games Purdue won we had the lead in the 2nd half) and only 2-5 against the teams listed behind us. Lots of room for improvement, for sure.

Tubby is entering his 6th year and has yet to record a winning conference record in the B1G. I guess I’ll believe it when I see it.

That's a good point. But with the talent and athleticism they have coming back, they could be scary good.

Minnesotas power forward can't be the same player after hurting his knee in such a short time. I hope the best for the guy, but he will miss a lot of developmental time and the knee might be healed, but its hard to believe it will be the same after only a year of rehabbing.

i like being the underdog, esp with such a young team. no pressure, just go out and have fun.

1a. Indiana
1b. Michigan
3. MSU
4. OSU
5. Iowa
6. Wisconsin
7. Minnesota
8. Purdue
9. Illinois
10. Northwestern
11. PSU
12. Nebraska

OSU with the development of Thomas and emergence of their sophomore class may be a sleeper this year. The loss of Sullinger may help them offensively as crazy as it sounds. Amir Williams will be the BIG defensive POY, he can be that good on the defensive end and a year behind Sullinger had to help him develop offensively...remember, he turned down Duke to go to OSU.

sportstalent, I would settle for those standing in a heartbeat. That would be acceptable progress for Coach McCaffery's third year, given what he started with and the toughness of the league.

"Acceptable" heck, I think most fans would be peeing themselves after what the Iowa program has been through.

I put Iowa at 5 because their schedule is actually favorable...just beat the bad teams they are supposed to an split with the rest and they could win 12 games.

There likely could be some growing pains as of the younger players develope but come Big 10 tournament time Iowa will not be a team anyone looks forward to playing. I would expect the following season to be the one hawkeye fans have been waiting for, for a long time. How good Iowa is this year could be strongly affected by how well Eric May plays. If he has a great year then Iowa could have a team that is damn near unstoppable. That's my two cents worth and it's probably over priced.

Eric May is in no way the key to the season. But I like your enthusiasm.

I disagree also. Any contributions from May would be a nice surprise. He could be a nice spark off the bench.

minnesota is a tourney team this year if mbakwe is healthy. no question.

tubby has been really hurt by injuries and defections

Still feel like we're going to be in about the same area as last year, the wins over big teams and the losses to the bad teams are just going to right themselves and we'll end up about the same.

2013-14 is going to be THE year with Uthoff in place and Gesell and Woodbury having a year of seasoning. If Woodbury doesn't go to the NBA of course.
