Big Ten Geeks: First Semester Grades - BTN.com

Nebraska got a better grade than us. Let's take it out on them in a couple of days.

Wisconsin played the toughest schedule? Really?

Just by glancing at schedules? Yes, probably. Michigan would probably be 2nd.

Wisc played...
St. Johns
Florida
St. Louis
West Virginia
Virginia
Marquette

Yeah that's pretty impressive even though just @VA was the only true road game.

Michigan played...
Iowa State
Florida State
Duke
Arizona
Stanford

"That rotation is going to tighten in conference play"

Can anyone back up this statement, or did the author just make it up on the spot to fill space in his article?

These grades appear to be relative to preseason expectations. See Nebraska's B+ versus Michigan State's C-. We all know which team is better.

I don't understand how losing because of missed free throws of the games against two top-10 level teams means that Iowa is a hair behind contenders, contenders who have struggled with awful teams (outside of Wisconsin.)

I'm not saying Iowa will win the Big ten but I have no idea what they've done relative to other top Big Ten teams to show they can't do it.

I guess he figures that the legit contenders would've close those games out?

I'm not calling you out for your post...just joining the conversation. Michigan State did lose at home to North Carolina. If they are ahead of us they should probably protect the home floor. Better teams than North Carolina will come calling during conference play.

I'm interested to see where Wisconsin and Ohio State are after a few conference games. They seem to be solid based on how things have gone thus far but I'm just not sold yet...having watched both play.

I'm sure that's what he meant but it's still stupid.

Iowa is totally a hair behind a team that had to rally to beat Columbia and barely beat Oakland and was dominated at home by a team who lost to freaking Belmont.

They're totally behind a team that needed a miracle rally to beat a team we lead for most of the game.

We have our flaws and I'm not picking us as a favorite but I see no evidence in the non-conference season that says "Iowa looks like it’s just a hair below the real contenders for the Big Ten title"

Also, none of the other contenders have played two teams as good as the two teams we lost to.

Okay, I'm done nitpicking a stupid column that no one really cares about. We need tomorrow's game to happen now.

bcl .. I agree with you but until we beat one of those teams, I don't think people will give us that respect. You make a good point though. It's just the way it is for now. Win in the Kohl Center in a week and I think we'll be having a differnt conversation.

100% correct, we need tomorrows game to happen ASAP. I hope we won't have another ISU discussion on this board until conference season is over.
