Big Ten All-Frosh team

at the midpoint?

Drew Crawford- NW....11.1 pts/gm...to me, Crawford is the best so far in the league. He actually has NBA type body and skills, and I believe will be the best player (even better than Coble) at NW in decades..

Eric May- right now I have him right behind Crawford for FOY..and if he starts shooting the three ball like he did vs OSU...look out.

JR Richardson- Ill...has had some big games scoring 20 pts in several. Great defender also.

Christian Whatford- IU.. skilled big man who will be a force as he gains bulk and strength...already pretty good.

Kelsey Barlow- Purdue...at 6'6'', a huge pg who defends well, rebounds well, and handles well. Shooting is still a work in progress, but he is strong as a horse and could be a very good power pg a la jimmy jackson someday.

Close misses:
Cully Payne...might make the team by year end...tough,bulldog with ball, solid shooter, defense needs work, but starting at pg is about as tough as it gets, and he has hung in there.

Brandon Paul...flashes of brilliance for Ill...inconsistent,but physically very gifted...Kendall Gill type game and future.

Maurice Creek...odds on favorite for FOY until he got hurt in late Dec..leading frosh scorer in the country at 18pts/game...tough break for a silky smooth 2 guard scorer.

Overall, it is a nice crop of frosh in the league this year. Next year promises to be much better,tho...with OSU,Ill,and MSU having top ten classes sprinkled with many top 25 players. This league is back, and aint going anywhere.

Whatford should be 2nd. He is averaging more points and rebounds than May or Richardson, and plays fewer minutes.

This years freshman class is just no where near what I thought it would be in the conference. Hopefully next season's classes can pick things up.

Don't forget Lil' Lick. That dude can handle the rock and fill the jar at will. I don't get why he isn't playing more minutes. Seriously, the kid obviously has some serious talent that just isn't being utilized by his coach. I think that if he played like 25+ minutes a game we could be a national powerhouse.

May and Payne has a nice advantage over freshmen on some of the loaded teams who don't get much playing time. Hope they can take advantage of it by getting some postseason honors. May is one of eight freshman listed in a poll on the Big Ten Network site on the most impressive frosh so far.
