BIG teams with good guard play

are going to cause us problems, IMO. I thought I'd compile a list of teams that would be difficult for us. Please share your thoughts accordingly. Or even point out how wrong I am. I am not saying these are "losses". I'm only listing the guards from each team.

Illannoy - Rayvonte Rice (18 ppg), Malcolm Hill (13.4 ppg) , Aaron Crosby (13.4 ppg), Kendrick Nunn (9.8 ppg) and Ammad Starks (9.6 ppg). All are averaging double figures. The good news is - they have Egwu inside and that is it.

Indiana - Blackmon (20 ppg) Yogi ( 18.8 ppg) and Robert Johnson (12.4 ppg). Williams and Perea are capable inside players. The good news is - Crean is the coach.

Maryland - Melo Trimble (14.6 ppg) D Wells (16.2 ppg). Layman has G/F skills at 6'9. I know they are picked to finish low in the BIG but I'm not sure why. Their roster is loaded with 4* talent.

MSU - Forbes (9.8 ppg) Trice and Valentine. Need I say more.

Michigan - Irwin (18.4 ppg), Lavert (16.2 ppg) and Walton (13.8 ppg). The good news is - They have very little under the basket.

Minnesota - Hollins (12.4 ppg), N Mason (11.6 ppg), C Morris (10.8 ppg) and Mathieu. They also have a big body inside.

Nebraska - Webster (8.3 ppg) Pettway (20.8 ppg) and Shields (23.5 ppg). The good news is - that appears to be all they have.

OSU - Russell ( 19 ppg), Scott (9.8 ppg) , K Williams (8.5 ppg). There really is no good news. They have Loving and Thompson that are G/Fs and they get a lot of production from multiple players.

PSU - Garner (11.3 ppg) Thorpe (8.5 ppg) and Newbill (24.5 ppg). The good news is - thats about all they have.

Purdue - Stephens ( 12.3 ppg) and Davis (10.7 ppg). They also have Haas and Hammonds on the inside. It's not outstanding guard play but I thought it was notable because they have 2 Centers that can play in Haas and Hammonds.

Wisconsin - Nothing to say here.

So the way I see it, That's 10 or 11 teams in conference that have strength and production in the back court. Which is definitely our weakness.
Clemmons (8.5 ppg), Gesell (5.5 ppg) Ogelsby (5.3 ppg), Jok (4 ppg) and Dickerson (2.2 ppg).

Another piece of good news is that we only play MSU (home) and Maryland (home), Michigan (@) PSU (@)and Indiana (@) once.

There is a real possibility that Iowa enters Big Ten play 9-4 or 8-5...and if that is the case, an NCAA bid is unlikely.

The thugs comment was unwarranted and unnecessary.
That wasn't meant in a socioeconomic/racist way, at all. That was meant in a "MSU big, physical, fouling machines that never get called for fouls" way.
In the basketball thuggery kind of way.
Don't project your racist concerns onto me, please. They do not fit and they most certainly ARE NOT APPRECIATED.
If it's a simple misunderstanding. no worries.

Watching the Illannoy vs Baylor game. Baylor is killing Illannoy on the glass and Baylor doesn't have crazy size like they did when we last played them.

Seems like you created a thread for yourself. But I think you bring up a good point about almost every other team has superior guards to ours. I don't think this is earth shattering news though. However, if you compare front courts across the B1G, we are near the top. Problem is, college hoops is much more a guards oriented game. Last thing I'll say, I don't care as much as the guards you listed PPG as I do the style of D they play and athleticism they have. OSU will work us on B1G opening night.

You can still be a pretty good team at .500 in the league. My concern is that Gesell is regressing, Oglesby is what is he is, and Jok has regressed. For Iowa to be competitive, we need these guys to step up big...now.

How has Jok regressed? Don't you have to progress to regress?

Last season Nebraska was 8-4 entering B1G play. The 4 losses were to U Mass, UAB, Creighton and Cincinnati. The wins were against Florida Gulf Coast, Western Illinois, South Carolina State, Georgia, Northern Illinois, Miami (FL), Arkansas State and The Citadel. Their road record in B1G play was 3-6. And finally they lost their 1st game in the B1G Tournament. This team received an NCAA bid.
