BIG reprimands head turtle Edsall, suspends player

Wow, what sort of doosh nozzles did Jim Delaney and the rest of the conference allow in the door when they invited Maryland to join the party? What happened at Penn State is simply embarrassing:

- Pre-game scuffle
- Terp Stefon Diggs stiff-arming an official in the face trying to break it up.
- Terp captains refusing to shake hands with Penn State captains at the coin toss.

The video in the story linked below is cringe-worthy.

Last ones in; first ones out? One can only hope.

Big Ten issues public reprimand of Edsall, fines school $10,000, suspends Diggs one game

It's obvious Edsall had giant wood about starting a "rivalry" with PSU. Just look at his post game interview.

The best rivalries aren't forced or created; but built over time, are competitive, are looked at/circled by both sides, and typically have meaning or something to play for. Unless things change over the next decade, I don't see this developing; but what do I know (or care).

Penn State used to be able to recruit nearby Maryland (and New Jersey, for that matter) hard and take some of the best players from both states. With both programs on the rise and eagerly seeing an additional level of credibility and parity by joining the B1G, Edsall may have wanted to take it a step further by mixing it up with PSU, especially if PSU ran through Maryland's pre- game warm ups.

Exactly. I told my wife that this reminded me of the predictability of the WWE in the mid 2000's. So predictable. Almost like it was staged or something. ;)

I just don't see the reason behind forcing two teams that had just recently been tangled up during pregame nonetheless, to go out and pretend to be sportsmanlike and shake hands. I simply don't get it. In my opinion it gives them every opportunity to start round two.

So what's the leagues stance if rather than shake hands they meet at midfield and another brawl brakes out? Does the league then go on record and say that shaking hands in that situation was a bad idea.
