Big East to Expand with TCU invite?

That's an awful lot of travel expense to get Big East Schools to and from Texas. Outside of a big name, this makes no sense.

The Big East is really in a tough spot. There just aren't any logical programs that they can add to their conference to improve football. They are surrounded by much more stable conferences where they aren't going to steal any teams from the ACC or the Big Ten. Their best bet is probably adding teams like Villanova, FAU and FIU and just hoping one of those programs take off.

They also are going to have a tough time adding teams since the more teams they add, the greater the chance of breaking up the basketball Big East conference, which is the flagship sport for that conference. There have been rumors for the last couple of seasons that the non football playing members of the conference have been looking into forming their own conference, if you're adding TCU and schools like that, I see that happening sooner than later.

I can see adding sports from bball members like Nova or something, but other than recruiting and name recognition, tBE has no reason to add TCU. TCU would travel a LOT, and all they would get out of it is recruiting in New England. Don't know if that is worth it to such a small school.

Big East's best bet would be to try and woo ND over. I know Notre Dame loves their independence, but let's be honest here....they'd have as great of a shot making to the BCS as an independent in the near future, as they would in the Big East.

The rest of their sports are already in that conference, aren't they? And I'm sure the Big East would give ND a bit more freedom as incentives to join (ie keeping the NBC deal or something).

TCU in the Big East makes no sense for either. TCU to the Big 12 makes more sense, and I'm surprised you don't hear more about it. Perhaps because Texas doesn't want to have to put up with the Horned Frogs every year? Imagine, though...Texas vs TCU for the Texas Horny Bowl!

The Big East is going to have to dump some non-football programs if they want to add football+basketball schools There's no way they can add more basketball teams to the conference and survive.

they see the writing on the wall, the loss of their BCS automatic bid. West Virginia saved them from losing it last time, no such miracles this time around.
