Big East Discusses Expansion Today

Approval given for Big East to expand to ten | CollegeFootballTalk

Official: Big East will add 2 teams -- Nova has a standing invite from September and won the FCS championship last year in Football. They also already play basketball in the Big East. TCU is another talked about school eager to get to an AQ conference (Big East isn't much better quality than MWC, so they could easily win that and qualify for Nat'l Champ game or at least BCS most years). Houston is another in order for recruiting and easier travel schedule for TCU if they join. We shall wait and see. It sounds like they are going ahead at a quick pace, so I would expect an announcement or invite within the next few months.

If I am Jamie Pollard and President Geoffrey I would ask them to consider Iowa State. I know this idea won't be popular with ISU'ers, but when you see an option open that would be more likely to survive than the Big 12 it warrants consideration. When the Big 12 was almost a goner there was interest from that league.

When they're done, the Big East is going to have the most ridiculous 'footprint'.

Actually, check that, they've already got it: South Florida, when the closest school is Louisville, West Virginia, and Georgetown.

So let's add a school in Texas!

about as ridiculous as the big ten having 12 teams and the big XII having 10 teams.

i kid, i kid- i agree about the footprint though.

I do think Villanova will move up to FBS, and eventually join Big East Football
... and, of course, there is always Notre Dame to consider

barring talk of those two, I agree that Central Florida and Memphis make the most sense, and you could throw in East Carolina, Southern Miss, UAB, etc.

What about a disgruntled PSU, mad that the Big Ten decided to move west w/ Nebby rather than looking at Maryland or Rutgers? If PSU and ND decided to join the Big East, that would give the conference a huge population base, and two of the biggest name brands. Plus, it would realign PSU with their "natural rivals" ... Pitt, WVU, Syracuse.

If PSU is THAT upset about Nebby, they need to get a clue. Rutgers? Or Nebraska? Does that even qualify as a choice?

I would think East Carolina would be one of the first to get an invite - they are jones'in to join a big time conference. Their football stadium would be right in the middle size-wize in the big east. They routinely play ACC teams (and often beat them). They have had very competitive baseball teams, although their basketball team sucks, but we know expansion is all about football. Geographically it makes sense.

My only questions is that if you add another school, what happens with basketball? Do the 8 non-football teams leave??
