Big 12 Expansion - for fun

Just for fun I thought I'd share my thoughts on possible B12 expansion. Sinc ethe departure of NE and CO from the North I have thought OK would need to move North to keep a competitive balance. This is assumign the B12 will want to return to 12 teams and have a championship, not stay at 10 without one. I don't see them pulling in any big names like the B10 did with Nebby. What would make most sense to me would be OK and Okie St moving to the north and the South basically becoming the Texas division by picking up any team of these TX teams: TCU, Houston, SMU, UTEP. In my limited knowledge of TX football, I think UTEP gets left out, TCU gets invited in and its a toss up between SMU and Houston. SMU to me has stronger tradition but Houston is better as of late. I'm a traditional guy so I'll go with SMU. So here are the divisions:

B12 North:
OK
Okie St
Kansas
K State
ISU
Missouri

B12 South:
TX
aTm
TX Tech
Baylor
TCU
SMU

It's a halfway decent conference. TX still gets a road map to the championship, as does OK. They would have no trouble getting a TX channel or B12 channel with everyone in the state of TX tuning in. I could see them having some life out of a conference like that, staying at 10 I think they're dead in a few years. ANy have thoughts on that, or just don't care, becuase lets face it, its just the B12 ;)

maybe they could swing it with TCU, but no way with SMU or Houston. All three are just too small outside of football, not to mention academics (no idea what they're like in that regard). I agree though that they should probably do something, or I really can't see this set up lasting very long.

I wager each of the three is twice the school academically compared to Texas Tech

If they were going to expand, it would only make sense to expand outside the state. They have all the tv sets they are going to get in the state of Texas.

BUT the Big Twelve (i.e. Texas & Oklahoma) isn't going to expand. By decreasing in size they increased their chances for a 2 BCS teams. Texas & Oklahoma play each other very early in the season - (OSU & Michigan are you listening???) - this gives them plenty of time to climb back into the BCS rankings. They don't have to play the Big Twelve title game, thus knocking out a team with a chance to goto the BCS. The new contract gives them more money for a BCS victory, which is NOT divided equally amongst the other schools, like a title game would have been...

Did UT pull the Texas two-step, by acting like the league was going to disintegrate, then pull back once they were rid of Colorado and Nebraska??? Who knows exactly, but one thing is for certain - they are going to make millions more that they do NOT have to share equally... Millions more -year after year- that they would NOT be making, had Nebby and CU stayed in the Big Twelve...

Think about it.

That had not crossed my mind, but very interesting. I think it was bovious the B10 beneifted from that same scenario getting two teams in BCS bowls multiple years. May not happen as frequently with a championship game now.

Memphis or Louisville seem logical to me ... then go after Arkansas (who will say no, I think) ... New Mexico would be a great choice (Alford aside) ... BYU seems a stretch

If I were the Texas schools I'd be looking at ways to leave ISU behind, in all honesty, but they don't want an all-Texas league, they already tried the SWC once and there are reasons they left it
