Big 10 Hockey??

Sounds like some of the Big 1G AD's are looking to start up the Big 1G hockey conference. Thus far, it would include 6 teams, with PSU starting a team in 2012. I would guess that Iowa would need to add a women's sport to switch the club team to a Big 1G team. Plus they would have to find a place to play their home games.

Yep, right on both counts. That, and the vast expense of running a hockey team make it unlikely that Iowa will be adding D1 hockey any time in the near future, unfortunately.

I would like to see Iowa have a team. although, it would be a big disadvantage recruiting wise I am guessing since the state of Iowa doesn't produce a lot of recruits.

I don't think Iowa would be at a big recruiting disadvantage. We are close enough geographically to states that produce talent. In addition we have several junior hockey teams (CR RoughRiders, Des Moines Bucks, Waterloo Blackhawks, Dubuque whatevers, SC Musketeers) and many of those guys go on to play D1 Hockey. The ice arena in the Mall would easily serve as a practice facility, and CR has the ice arena to host games.

I would LOVE me some Iowa B10 hockey, even though we’d probably get kicked around for a few years.

UNO has a pretty decent hockey program, and in reality, it didn't take them long to get there. I don't see why Iowa couldn't have a decent hockey program. Then again, Omaha is an amature sports town, and there are quite a few hockey fans here.

I just can't believe that we had 3 hockey teams in town just a couple of years ago.
