Benchmarks. What? and When?

Ok I think we can all agree this TL experiment is not going the way any Hawkeye fan wants it. I like TL. I think he is a good coach. He just might not be a fit for Iowa. Regardless of any excuses the success of the program sits soley on the head coach's shoulders. We have not been successful under TL and it appears it will be some time if ever. I hope I am wrong. So my question is (1). what Benchmarks do you set for TL and (2.) when do those Benchmarks have to be met before we part ways.

Mine would be .500 for the 2010/2011 season come Feb 15th, 2011.

If that is .500 in the league ,ok....but overall .500 at 2/15/11? Not gonna cut it,in my book. We have UNI and ISU at home next year, and you can bet that we are going to schedule very softly in the discretionary games this next year. You can schedule 9 wins in the pre-season,and still be bad. That would mean you could be 13-13 (4-9) at 2/15/11...would that cut it for you?

My benchmark for next year is making the NIT,minimum. That means finishing probably in the 6th or 7th range in the league with about an 8-10 Big Ten record, and winning at least 18-19 games. NW made the NIT last year. They might make the NCAA this year and next, so aspiring to be close to NW is our challenge.

Same as a several weeks ago in step-wise progression. He has buried himself in a deep hole and it will take small steps to get out of it.

1. This team show signs of life. Very few games like Michigan. As sad as it is, I am not going to say X number of games he needs to win. However he better be competitive and the players better look like they still want to play and are improving. If the majority look like Michigan from here on out I think we part ways. I don't think they will.

2. All key players return. If either Brommer or Archie transferred I would give him a pass on this as you could site lack of playing time. Anybody else would show that the festering problems that have haunted this coaching regime the past 2.5 years are still present. Lack of playing time, an unforeseen family situation or a coaching change are the only legitimate reasons for transfers in my mind.

3. Next year the team has a winning record and playing more watchable ball. Fewer turnovers, better defense etc. I think at least an NIT birth is needed if there are no major injuries. We will know by the New Year whether this will be possible. The instate series will be huge.

first, they need to get back to showing improvement this season and win a few more games.
NO TRANSFERS, I might be able to understand a Brommer leaving for more playing time (although I would like to see him more yet this year, just to see what he can do) or a Tucker leaving but NO ONE ELSE.
Last but not least, I want to see an IOWA team (men's basketball) over achieve for a change. if exceptions are 8th or 9th in the big 10 I want to make the NCAA tourney with a forth or better finish in the Big 10, if we are picked to finish last again I want a forth place or better finish and an invite to the dance.

I may be more allowing than others but I expect us to be in the NCAA tourney in 2012. This was my expectation before anything came out about a suggested expanded tourney. So I guess if that were to happen I would expect us to be in the top 64. I also expect us to compete in the games we play. If we have numerous games where the players seem to be lacking effort, I raise the concern that Coach Lick has lost the team and if Lick ever loses the team there is no return from that.

If either Brommer or Archie transferred I would give him a pass on this as you could site lack of playing time.

Why does he get a 'pass' on this?

HE, being Todd Lickliter, personally recruited both of these players.

If they are not good enough to play for him, then why did he recruit them in the first place?
