Beating Michigan

I do agree with Deace in that you get out ahead on Michigan by multiple scores, they'll fold. Wisconsin did it to them. It will be harder for Iowa to do so, but not impossible. Of course, I have no idea how that should be done. However, I think Iowa is more diverse in its offense than it's been in years, so they'll have options. If one thing isn't working, they can go to another plan. It will be key for Brian to recognize that and be able to downshift into something else if Plan A isn't clicking.

Brian said he scripts so many plays to start the game and if those or working and we can score then that is great while also seeing how Mich reacts to our formations, etc.

Iowa has the better passing game, Wisconsin has the better rushing game. This is also Stanley’s first real test of the season, we’ll know Saturday afternoon whether he’s taken a big step forward, or is the same old low draft pick developmental player. How does Michigan’s secondary compare to their front seven? I’m not really sure what their defensive strength is considered to be.

Contrary to some...I thought Iowa State on the road was a pretty good test. I'm not saying Jack Trice is The Big House...but the idiots in Ames make alot of noise and it's a hostile environment. This year...they even attacked the opposing teams band. Stanley made the plays necessary to win that game...although our red zone offense left a bit to be desired. He didn't turn it over and he made good decisions.

In Stanley’s defense, he’s played well in Jack Trice twice. ISU certainly has a formidable backfield, and they gave him their best shot. Iowa’s struggle in reaching the end zone was more on the play calling than it was on Stanley. Kirk was more than content with 3 every time they were in range rather than being risky possibly getting backed up. I do think that his is the greater test though, given Stanley’s past performance in “big” Big Ten games. ISU wasn’t going to define Iowa’s season. How Iowa performs against Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan will.

The key to beating Michigan I think is not allowing big plays on defense. It's unlikely they will execute well enough to sustain long drives, unless Shea Patterson plays better than I've seen so far, but they are very likely to go for a big play with one of their 4 or 5 star WRs.

Agreed...these next two games will go a long way in defining Stanley's season. I like the way he's looked this year. He seems really confident...and he's focused. Great kid too...I hope he excels the next two weeks.
