I dont care who you root for and I dont watch much baseball anymore but these one game play in wild card games are stupid.

The whole idea about baseball season is its grueling length and to be able to manage and play thru 162 games.

So then all of a sudden a few years ago they decide to maintain some intrigue they add another team adn this one game play in contest.

One game proves nothing and is so prone to who has their best pitcher ready.

If MLB wants more intrigue and more drama in Sept then open the playoffs to 8 teams in each league. Play 2 out of 3 first round to whittle it down to four teams, then play 3 out of 5 semifinals, then play your 4 out of 7 league Championship series leading up to the world series.

Screw the off days in the two early rounds and you can still get all this done in October.

Playoffs are stupid in baseball. The best baseball team wins 60% of their games, which means 5 or 7 game series are fluky. I say they should play 162 games and the team with best record is the champion. There's no money or excitement in that -- but its the most honest way to determine a champion given the long, repetitive nature of the season, the number of players that contribute to a baseball team in a season, and the fact that great baseball teams just slightly more like to win then lose any given game.

I disagree. As someone who couldn't care much less about baseball, the only games I have watched were the last 2 days.

Baseball is my favorite sport. Was thinking about this, I like the 1 game playoff because I think it keeps teams playing hard and playing their starters through the stretch run longer because they want to secure the Division Title to guarantee getting in to a series. If all they had to do was lock up a Wild Card berth, many teams would choose to sit guys etc. the last week of the season. This year, we came down to Sunday with I believe 3 spots for division titles still open and teams were having to go after it on the last day. I also am not in favor of making the playoffs last longer, I think they go too far into cold weather as it is. If they were to change the wild card up, they would need to make the first couple rounds shorter or not have so many off days between games.

two words for you brah: luxury tax or revenue sharing....whatever 2 words does it for you. This is what is allowing small market teams to compete.

Not sure what this comment has to do with my post or the OPs? Maybe start a thread about the financial side of the game and small markets ability to compete?

According to cyfans the one game series is a play in game. Oakland and the Pirates didn't actuallymake the playoffs.

Playoff baseball is very dramatic when you have a team in the fight.....I was biased with the KC/Oakland game but that was probably the best elimination game I have ever watched.
