According to USA TODAY and Des Moines Register research, at least 38 teams are paying $1 million or more to non-conference opponents this season — and this includes 11 schools in the Big Ten and two in the Big 12.

“The market just continues to go up,” Barta said. “I’m hearing stories of other schools paying $2 million for games. You continue to wonder where the market is going to stop.

“I cringe at the fact that the market keeps going up, which is another reason I’m a proponent of 10 Big Ten Conference games. If the conference would come to some uniformity, I’d be proponent of it.”

That's an interesting comment from a guy that has had his share of responsibility in driving "the market" up and up and up. He's only concerned now because he cannot bleed any more money out of the Iowa fan base. If he could get away with ongoing price increases, he wouldn't give a shit about how much he has to pay the U of Cupcake to come to Kinnick.
