OK, so good he is communicating with everyone. But not many answers to questions we all have.
Hawkeyes,
As the calendar turns to April, I wanted to send a note of thanks to our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans. These are challenging times, and this virus has impacted all of us. Part of the challenge is the uncertainty — we don’t have all the answers at this time. That being said, I am thankful to each of you who continue to stay positive and provide support for each other.
Our athletics department staff has been working to stay connected during this work-at-home period. We are all learning new technology and hosting video conference calls with staff and student-athletes. The occasional dog barking in the background has provided much-needed humor during some of the calls. I want to thank the entire athletics department staff for adapting quickly and making sure we meet the needs of our student-athletes from an academic and overall well-being standpoint.
Collectively, this has been an amazing year for all our teams, with many victories, personal accolades and team successes. We are proud and happy for the national recognition of Kathleen Doyle, Luka Garza and Spencer Lee, in addition to many other Hawkeye student-athletes. At the same time, our heart aches for those student-athletes whose opportunity to wear the black and gold one more time this season was cut short. The ability to compete for a Big Ten Conference or NCAA championship is a goal for all of our Hawkeye student-athletes. I am proud of their accomplishments and know all of you share our Hawkeye pride.
We continue to work through changing timelines, policies and procedures, including the recent NCAA eligibility decision. Our coaches and student-athletes have stayed positive during this time of uncertainty and it is motivating to witness how they have adapted to a new way of operating.
As we reflect during this challenging time, we are thankful for the encouragement and generous support you provide to our student-athletes and 24 sports programs. One thing is certain — Hawkeyes fans are the best in the nation. You are an integral part of our success, providing support and partnership for us to Win. Graduate. Do It Right.
We continue to move forward, while being mindful of our community, our state, our nation, and our world, who are all facing uncertain times. A heartfelt thanks to the front-line health care workers and first responders, as well as many individuals in each community providing continued support and service. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those individuals and families who are suffering.
We wish you and your family health and hope. We look forward to seeing you again in person at a home event on campus.
God Bless you all. Go Hawks.
