Barta: OSU scandal is "sad day" for B1G, OSU, college athletics

Gary really went out on a limb on this one; hope he doesn't fall off. Actually, I don't know whether he could have said much more. I wish Dochterman would have followed up more on what Iowa is or isn't doing in response to tOSU to monitor its own players and to try to ensure the staff identifies and immediately responds to potential questionable behavior.

I would have to agree with Barta. As much as I hate OSU, it really hurts the overall perception of college athletics. Love the way Kirk runs his program.

I'm not so sure it hurts the over all perception of college athletics. Recently the NCAA has been viewed as a joke (with no one to fault but themselves) for how they've handled things recently while more and more events have taken place to bring shame to the world of college sports. IMO, depending how this plays out, this could finally be the straw that broke the camels back and gets the NCAA to remove their head from their ***** and start getting things under control and getting rid of the day to day corruption.

I think "sad days" are the type of days we've seen to frequently like the day Cam Newton was cleared of knowing anything about that scandal or the NCAA allowing the Tat 5 to play in a bowl game. Those were sad days. What's sad about cheaters get put in their place, regardless of who or what school they represent.

Agreed. The NCAA is the one clearly at fault here. Schools are allowed to toe the line and risk getting caught because we all know the NCAA will do very little in regard to punishment, if anything at all - until U$C. Now you have another major football program on the brinks of a major setback and only time will tell if this is finally a wake up call for other cheating schools....see the $EC. The NCAA needs to drop the hammer on O$U and send a loud and clear message to the rest of the schools that this will not be tolerated in the future and any future cheaters will be dealt more severe punishments than what U$C and O$U are getting.
