The bowl payouts must be way down, even in the semi final games in order for it to be a loss. I thought the teams that played in the bowl games got reimbursed for their expenses by the conference before they did the payouts.

Wow. This guy is staring down a $65 million deficit and (a) gave ISU a BCS berth to the detriment of the B1G and (b) is willing to send the team to a game that will lose money. Unreal. If a bowl can't spin off enough money to get the team to the arena, I don't give a shit how big of a "partnership" we have with the bowls, just cancel the unprofitable ones. It's not like the motels and local Red Lobster establishments will make anything so just cancel them. This reeks of a "hey, the bond covenants in the stadium's credit facility are shot to shit so if you guys can figure out a way to still get a game and pay us the usage fee that would be great." You have to be an absolute rube to buy into that shit. I now give Nebraska props for bowing out of the bowl picture.

Yeah...I'm not sure how he's going to recover only getting $57 million a year from the B10 television contract...plus what Kinnick generates when fans come back next year. Iowa Football is a juggernaut money maker. Throw in the deep pockets in the alumni and wealthy donors...and this financial deficit is just a blip on the radar screen showing up as often as integrity does with Trump.

I understand your sentiment, but the problem is people don't understand the off-handedness similar to people not catching sarcasm, and all of a sudden you have a big back and forth shit show argument. It really does have to be all or nothing. Even jokes don't fly because people take them personally and again, it goes off the rails.

Do I care if someone likes or doesn't like a political figure? Not at all. Doesn't bother me in the least. But I (and a majority of other posters) don't want to have to read it on the sports boards like this past summer.

It's been known a long time that no politics are going to be allowed and that there's a specific forum for that stuff, so if people want to do it strictly to troll (which is the case here), it's not going to happen. That post got reported to mods by other posters, btw, it's not just me who wants it gone. I didn't even see it until it got reported.

You and I certainly agree that politics should not be allowed on HN sports forums. We are so terribly polarized. We just can’t talk to each other. Sad.

That’s the idea behind the separate forum. But no one wants to use it because they’re only about antagonizing the other side.

He wasn’t making a statement re: Trump, he was trying to get a rise out of people.
