Bardo's Doogie Howser/ J-Lickliter Comment

i thought it was uncalled for, it's not the job a color guy to make fun of a player for his appearance and stature, but to analyze the plays of the game.........comparing Lickliter to Doogie is not analyzing a game. Bardo seemed to be an up and comer with ESPN but nows seems relegated to calling low level Big Ten games...........maybe there is a reason for that.

When you have a team like Iowa has, players like Iowa has, and plays like Iowa does, especially on national TV, expect to be ridiculed. That guy was funny and made some funny comments. He had to do something to try to keep people watching that game. So he did a comedy routine...the game was a comedy, with a comedy coach.
His comment, "But getting back to Iowa. How can you, as a coach, not watch this first half and realize your style of offense and defense do not work. 19 points. It baffles me. My sisters 4th grade basketball team that didn’t win a game, scored more points in a half. The Women’s Canadian Curling team scores more points than this. It’s horrific. Iowa was 6-18 in the half, that’s 33% for all of you at home. Northwestern was 17-27, almost doubling Iowa’s percentage at 63%. They were one shot away from making as many shots as Iowa took. I’m so sick of beating a dead horse, but good lord this horse just keeps on screwing up even in his after life. Just when I think it might be turned around, Iowa plays like this. No wonder they can’t give away 300 tickets and get students to show up."
Pretty much sums up Iowa BB and Lickliter doesn't it!
Iowa fans should be embarassed. Barta and the Athletic Department should be embarassed with the product that is Iowa BB. Lickliter should be extremely embarassed with what he has done to Iowa BB.
How can anyone be offended by what color analysts say when Iowa plays like they did. We can only beat the poorer teams in the country. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, playing Iowa thinks they have a chance of winning. That alone should be an embarassment for an Iowa fan.

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, now you start to agree with a stupid comment by a colorman. Why would any of us think it is funny to make fun of any of our players, no matter how bad they are playing? Oh, that's right......many of you have been making fun of John Lickliter all year anyway. Well, it's nice to see you have the ability to stay on at least one bandwagon.
As far as continuing to beat a dead horse......stop then? Nothing is going to get better the rest of the year so deal with it. We will see how things play out in the offseason and go from there. If Lick is back next year, which I think he will be, you will have to deal with it again. My sense all along is that they will be better, so hopefully it will be alot easier for all of us to deal with.

Like I said, some of us aren't overly sensitive. I imagine if the comment had been made of Shura(who is a baby face as well), plenty of people on here would have laughed. But because it was made of poor lil John, then it's a horrible act.
Anything to keep our attention off of the trainwreck which is our program I suppose.

It will be alot easier when we have a new head coach and staff in place.
That line was just awesome. It is really sad that I get a ton of texts whenever Iowa plays just making fun of the product on the floor. We are literally the definition of the laughing stock of the Big Ten.

I don't have a problem with Bardo's comment...if he had said "Shurna looks like Shaggy from the Scooby-Doo cartoon" would anyone have a problem with it or would we just say "HOLY CRAP! HE DOES!!!"???

I am a Lick supporter and if this happens it happens, I won't lose any sleep over it. But, if it does happen, and Iowa has a similar or worse record next year, when will you start calling for the new coaches head?

Three years is not enough for Lick, nor would it be enough for any other new coach. That is why we have 5-7 year contracts. Five years is a legit timeframe. Are we there yet?

I guess my opinion is that 3 years with no improvement is enough. Especially since we have actually regressed in the win column and with all the transfers. Those who want Lick gone are more than justified imo. To answer your question about contract length, i dont think any coach should get a 7 year contract. That is on Barta. A 5 year contract is necessary for recruting purposes.

I guess I could hang my head in shame and be angry at the colorman for telling the truth. Lil Lick doesn't deserve to be on the court and everyone knows it but his father who is probably having people tape lil lick when he is on the floor so that when Big Lick gets fired he can watch tapes of Lil lick when he sits at home with no job.
I'm just not that thin skinned when color commentators make fun of Iowa these days...Iowa is a disaster of a program, with a disaster of a coach. Local papers just aren't as tough on Lickliter, Barta, and our program as they should be; as other local papers would be of other programs -- say like Ohio State, Michigan, Kentucky, and so on. Local papers and reporters are pretty nice to Barta and Lickliter (sans the Lil Lick article by the DMR). Iowa is so irrelevant that making a joke about Iowa and Iowa players is the only news Iowa gets anymore guys...that is how low Iowa has sunk in the world of college bb and it isn't going to get any better anytime soon with Lickliter at the helm and probably Barta from the looks of it, unless he gets a pair...
It will be interesting to see what the Gazatte five-piece article is about. My guess is that it will be sugar coated so that it won't hurt anyone's feelings, least of all Lickliter's or Barta's.
