Balance of the year

After tonight's solid performance against OSU and the Hawks continuing to improve what do you think the rest of the year looks like??

Here's my prediction for the balance of the year:

At Michigan - L - 8-14 (2-7)

Illinois - W - 9-14 (3-7)

At Ohio State - L - 9-15 (3-8)

Northwestern - W - 10-15 (4-8)

At Purdue - L - 10-16 (4-9)

Michigan - W - 11-16 (5-9)

At Northwestern - W - 12-16 (6-9)

Indiana - W - 13-16 (7-9)

At Wisconsin - L - 13-17 (7-10)

At Minnesota - L - 13-18 (7-11)

Finish #8 in Big Ten. A bit better than the preseason prediction of last in Big Ten.

Not sure who that would match us up with in the first round of the Big Ten tournament but I think we might win the first game and then go down in a tight game in the next round.

They were actually still up by two (50-48) with 4:21 left in the game so I would argue that if they play like they did in the first 36 or even 37 minutes tonight and Cougs connects on 2 of his 5 open treys or Fuller re-emerges for another double-double or Gatens is 100% or Tucker comes in off the bench to add another consistent scoring threat or Cole stays out of foul trouble they possibly win several games going away.

The hawks played good, they just couldn't finish down the stretch. I will say there was about 4 possessions that I bet Iowa had back. They almost went into Stall mode around the 4 min mark, when they were up by 5. I can't believe Iowa didn't know how to handle that 1-3-1 that OSU put on. All they had to was dribble penetrate and kick out and look down low. I know lauderdale is HUGE, but man that guy is SLOW!

Iowa probably felt they should of won that game, they played really well, just the last 3 min they let it go. Stupid inbounds play where turner goes up and steals it. Can't Iowa get anything closer than just lobbing it backcourt? Also cully payne needs to stop chucking up air balls. How many did he have last night 3 or 4 from way downtown. He should not have the ball under 10 seconds on the shot clock, that is for gatens, may, or even cole!

I wouldn't count on sweeping NW or on losing at Michigan. Going 4-0 at home would be something to build on if they Hawks can pull it off.

Isn't it interesting how expectations change? How many people had Iowa losing every Big Ten game this season? I'll admit I did.

By the way, the mistakes that we made at the end are coachable mistakes. I'm eager to see improvement in the next few games.

Have you even seen NW play? Iowa will lose in Evanston, and probably in CHA.
I see the Hawks having a shot at Illinois,Michigan,NW and IU at home, but no guarantees.
We have won 2 of the last 3 at Michigan, but those two wins were largely powered by Tony Freeman,so I doubt we win over there.
I have Iowa beating IU and Michigan in CHA...and finishing 10-22(4-15)...but hope for better.

Unfortunately your argument can go both ways. If May wasn't hitting his shots, if Ohio State didn't miss every three pointer the first half, if Cully's two great but difficult layups didn't go in. Basically, if everything goes right for us and wrong for the other team, we'll do better than if the reverse happens.

Actually we were in a stall mode the entire game. Running the shot clock under 10 seconds is SOP for this system against teams that like to play uptempo.

I know we were stalling the entire game, but earlier in the game we were at least attacking the basket. Under 4 min, we just stood out there and then chucked up 30ft 3's. I think our system was okay, but we still need to attack, we played on our heels the last 4min and that's what cost us this game.

I think the hawks can win the rest of their home games. They are gonna play ILL, IU, NW, and Michigan, all teams we can beat. I also wouldn't be surprised if the hawks sneak one out on the road. Possibly at Mich, or NW. hell maybe even Minny. The hawks are improving and it is showing. We have played two of top teams in the big ten to 15pts (meaning we got beat by a total of 15pts in those two games.) That's not too bad, considering you have 3 freshman and 3 sophomores doing majority of the workload.

Tough loss last night. Bottom line, OSU played like Nat'l Champs in the last 6 minutes of the game.

But if Cougill's last 3 doesn't go 75% of the way down & come back out, we would have been up 10 with 5.5 minutes left & it could have been much different. Instead, Turner gets a bucket in transition. An excuse, I know...but I like the improvement & hustle I'm seeing. Up to that point we had totally outplayed & outworked OSU -- the dividends will show up in the win column at some point, if they continue playing that way.

Yes, we had a few key TO's down the stretch...but the bigger problem was OSU scored about 27 of their 65 points in the final 7 minutes of the game...we just couldn't get a stop.
