Hawkeyes to play 6 weekend home games in CHA

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Big Ten announced its 2016-17 men’s basketball conference schedule on Thursday. The conference season begins Dec. 27, and culminates with the 20th annual Big Ten Tournament at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. from March 8-12.

The University of Iowa will open league play on the road at Purdue on Dec. 28, before returning home to host Michigan on New Year’s Day on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa will play six home Big Ten games on the weekend, including two Saturday contests: Ohio State (Jan. 28) and Illinois (Feb. 18). Sunday home games include: Michigan (Jan. 1), Rutgers (Jan. 8), Nebraska (Feb. 5), and Penn State (March 5). The contest against Nittany Lions on March 5 will serve as “Senior Day.”

Iowa will play Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska, Purdue, and Rutgers twice each. The Hawkeyes will play Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwestern, and Wisconsin all once on the road, while competing against Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State all once at home.

I don't mind the schedule.

We better win a few of those early road games in the Big10 because our last three road games are arguably our toughest. Probably a good thing for a young team though.

They sure like pounding Purdue down our throats early. Didn't we play them twice last January? Must be because we're such bitter rivals.

Break the conference season down into thirds and it looks like 4-2, 4-2 and 3-3 to me.

I'd take 11-7 or even 10-8. I do think road games against ILL, NW, Neb, and Minny are going to be tougher than we expect. Tough to predict how it will turn out with such a young team.
