B1G QB talent

Is really bad this year. I can't remember a time the talent level at QB was this bad. Taylor Martinez and Shoe String are both way over hyped. The B1G is struggling this year due to lack of talent behind center.

They maybe aren't great passers, but Braxton Miller, Taylor Martinez, Nathan Scheelhaase, Denard Robinson, and Marquis Gray are game changers. Tre Roberson was emerging as well on a bad team and Kain Colter is going to be solid.

Vandenberg was supposed to be the best pure passer but he seems off. From a passing standpoint the Big Ten isn't great, but there are a lot of athletic QB's who are factors.

Against Air Force and the directional schools, maybe.

Michigan's ceiling is only so high with Robinson. He is a bittersweet player. Without him, they probably don't go to a bowl last year or this year. But they are ready to move on to the next era of their program next year, will tell Robinson thanks and likely not have any longing.

Scheelhaase is below .500 as a starter.
Gray is below .500 as a starter.
Roberson is below .500 as a starter.

Not a lot of outcome changing there.

Martinez is another conundrum for Nebraska. I think most Nebraska fans will not have longing for him once his eligibility expires.

I just caught some BTN highlights but I think Marquis Gray had a big game yesterday.

I am afraid he is gonna create a lot of problems for Iowa.

In 2008, the worst thing RichRod ever did was try to implement his spread with Steven Threet at QB. Not going 3-9 that year may have bought him enough good will to have another year to try to field a defense in 2011.

Hoke has done what RichRod should have: partially implement your desired system to give the people a taste, but maintain facets of the old system to have some immediate success. I don't know jack about the spread, or any strategy details, really, but sometimes coaches are dumb about macro-level issues that laypeople can figure out.

I will agree that outside of Robinson and Martinez, that the wins aren't there. However, Illinois, Minnesota, and Indiana haven't had much offensive talent to surround their QB with. Illinois probably was the closest but they had Zook. I know these guys aren't Vince Young-like, but I do think without them, those teams are even worse.

Tressel did that as well and was very successful with it. He would go out of a pro set for long stretches and then go spread. Watching him go to spread against us in 2006 when we kept it close while they were running the pro set was a miserable experience.

"Ted Ginn with the catch for a gain of 12"

"Anthony Gonzalez with the catch for a gain of 9"

Etc. That linebacker on the slot guy got absolutely torched that night and the 10 yard cushion was just exploited over and over.

I think KF is too worried about hurting feelings. He tried the 2 QB approach with Banks his junior year and I think it would have worked, but then the boo birds came out. I just don't get it.

Yep. They scored early hitting Gonzalez out of the slot, and just when it looked like they were going to run us out of the building, we got a 2nd quarter full of Antonio Pittman off tackle.

It was 14-10 for awhile, long enough to give Kinnick hope, at least. Then the rough second half [read: "rest of the season"].

Actually the Big 10 QBs have been this bad for a while now....

Martinez, Robinson, Vandenberg, Miller, Gray etc.... were all starting QBs last year.

Correct, but we're only two years removed from Pryor, Stanzi, and Tolzien, who were all in the conference with more recent departures like Cousins and Persa. Those guys were all solid, at the very least. Stanzi and Tolzien were probably middle-of-the conference talents. This year, they'd be looking at all-Conference honors, subject to whether Denard and Miller stay healthy through conference play.
