B1G Conference W/L for 2011-2012

I am stuck inside on this fine Sunday afternoon, so the future of Hawkeye basketball is what I look to, to ease my suffering...

The schedule for 2011-12 can have a huge swing to it. We could end up playing the future bottom two cellar dwellers twice and the B1G champion & runner-up once, or vice versa. Tho probably not, as the powers that be for the B1G will try their best to match up the schedule as best they can, based on their predictions.

So I will base the schedule guess somewhat off of the 2010-2011 schedule with the addition of the inbreds to the west, Nebbie. Iowa will play 7 teams we play twice, and 4 teams we play once. There will (should) be a split of playing 1 team from each predicted tier. With each tier having 3 teams. Here is a rough guess at the order of finish:

Tier 1:
  1. OSU - they good.
  2. UM - they good too.
  3. Wisky - I hate them this high. But Boring Bo seems to lull the competion to sleep (including us fans!) on an annual basis. I yawned typing this...
Tier 2:
  1. MSU - they could be lower.
  2. Illannoy - fab four they say, what the? Weber will whine his way to the upper middle of the pack.
  3. PU - arrogant puke does know how to coach. Box out, box out!
Tier 3:
  1. IU - they have to have luck on their side one of these years...
  2. IOWA - Those 8 or those 9 losses by 6 points or less last year will be WINS in 2011-12, bank on it.
  3. Minnesota - more player losses have Tubby where he will finish his career.
Tier 4:
  1. NW - they just can't do it. 2011 was suppose to be their year.
  2. Nebbie - 1.7 million people. What a huge boost to our tv fan base. At least they buy football tickets like Hawkeye & Wisconsin fans...
  3. PSU - Their coach left at a great time.
Playing teams once I have; @OSU, Illannoy, IU & @ PSU. I predict loss, loss, win & win. If we get the favorable schedule. White Magic be with us...

So that leaves:
  1. UM - 2 losses
  2. Wisky - split. We are Mad. No yawning us to sleep.
  3. MSU - split
  4. PU - 2 losses, no Jarryd Cole this year.
  5. Minn - split
  6. NW - 2 Wins
  7. Nebbie - 2 Wins
There you have it, my homer predictions for 2011-2012. I say 11-2 in the pre-season, with a loss to the clowns and one other. 20-11 (9-9), in a down year for the Big Ten. To be honest, that is more homerish than I thought I would be, but with a favorable schedule...
I'm basing this off that favorable schedule, the B1G being a step behind last season, AND the improvement from our current players, mainly the M's(May, Melsahn, Marble & McCabe) - no serious injuries (especially Cartwright) - plus two of the four recruits being right on with their game. Hubbard & White are my recruits to shine.

Thoughts?

I was real high on Michigan with Morris, but I think they miss him more than many of the prognosticators seem to be anticipating.

I have MSU behind OSU....MSU still returns Roe,Green,Appling,Payne, and Nix,with some nice guards coming including 17 pts scorer at Valpo,Wood, and Branden Dawson,a McAA's small forward who can really board. They might be thin at guard, but their frontline will be right there with OSU.

Michigan drops to third without Morris who was the engine last year.

Wisky drops to the second tier...good but not good enough to challenge, without skilled big men like Leuer and Nankavil.

If Iowa can go 20-11...lets have a parade!...I say 18- 13(8-10) would be a nice step.

I thought I had read that MSU lost multiple players again, maybe I misread that. Regardless, Izzo will have team. He always does. Michigan doesn't have a senior on the team, plus they have some good recruits. They will be tough.

Wisky dropping to the 2nd tier is something I would like to see. Dropping to the 3rd tier would be fantastic! I just despise that type of basketball. My friends across the country laugh at the style, then turn the channel. Boring basketball is not good for the B1G. There is a reason that brand of ball faded away in the 60s...
