B1G Basketball Tournament Seeding

If it comes to a 3 way tie between OSU, MSU and Michigan, OSU will get the #1 seed, then MSU then Michigan with the 3 seed.

If Iowa can get the 5th or 6th seed, they would most likely play PSU or Nebraska in the First round and then Michigan or Wisconsin in the second round.

We need to stay out of the 7,8 & 9 seed cause a first round win meane we play OSU or MSU in the second round.

That would be ideal. It is definitely a tall order though.

As it was in the old format, if you were not going to get a 1st round bye, the six seed was the best slot, or the 11. It's still that way...its the best draw if you are not one of the favorites.

In the old format, 1-5 seeds got draws and the 4-5 winner played the 1...I always felt that the 6 seed had as much value of getting to the semi's as did the 4-5, even if you had to play that one extra game...and if you are a bubble team needing a couple of Big Ten tourney wins, the 6 hole was and remains the best option

But with this new format the 5 seed does not look bad either. The first game is against the 12 seed and the 2nd round is against the 4 seed. I will take my chances against the #1 seed in the semi finals.

I don't think the 5th seed is realistic at this point, 6th is probably the best we can hope for. Last year the 5th seed got a bye.

Im going to assume that MSU, OSU and UM are going to be the top 3 seeds. I will also assume that Nebraska and PSU are going to be the 11-12 seeds. Here are the remaining teams records and remaining conference schedules:

4- Wisconsin (9-5)
@Iowa
@Ohio State
Minnesota
Illinois

5- Indiana (8-7)
@Minnesota
Michigan State
Purdue

6- Purdue (7-7)
Nebraska
@Michigan
Penn State
@Indiana

7- Northwestern (6-8)
Michigan
@Penn State
Ohio State
@Iowa

8- Iowa (6-8)
Wisconsin
@Illinois
@Nebraska
Northwestern

9- Minnesota (5-9)
Michigan State
Indiana
@Wisconsin
Nebraska

10- Illinois (5-9)
@Ohio State
Iowa
Michigan
@Wisconsin

Man.. Unfortunately it looks like Iowa is pretty close to locked in the 7-9 range unless they can get hot and really do well these last 4 games. Hello OSU/MSU.. I'd be happy just to get out of the first round for a change, though. I'm probably more concerned with who our first round matchup will be at this point..

Not sure I'm liking those matchups much, either:

NW - They've simply had our number.

Minnesota - Tough to go 3-0 against a team

Illinois - They've quit on Bruce Weber, but will they have renewed life once the BTT starts and they're down to they're last chance? Similar to what Alford's Iowa teams did? That team still has talent, so not sure if we'd be facing a wounded & dangerous animal at that point, or if they will simply flame out.

Or could Purdue/Indiana potentialy drop down to a 1st round matchup with us? I would really like a Purdue matchup.

Unless Iowa runs the table it will be hard to get the #6 seed. Even if we beat Wisky and lose only to Illinois, we still finish 9-9. Purdue will beat Nebby and PSU and probably lose @ Indiana and @ Michigan. That leaves them 9-9 but w/ 2 victories over Iowa they get the #6 seed.

Here is how I see it playing out:

Wisky- 2-2
Indiana- 1-2
Purdue- 2-2
Northwestern- 1-3
Iowa- 4-0 :D
Minnesota- 2-2
Illinois- 0-4

Final B1G Standings

1- MSU 15-3
2- Michigan 14-4
3- Ohio State 13-5
4- Wisconsin 11-7
5- Iowa 10-8
6- Indiana 9-9
7- Purdue 9-9
8- Northwestern 7-11
9- Minnesota 7-11
10- Illinois 5-13
11- Penn State 4-14
12- Nebraska 4-14

I think we should just cherish every win with this (overachieving) team and hope there is some type of post-season tournament at the end. We have to play at our absolute best (which we have on numerous occasions) to beat anyone in the Big Ten right now.

The next two years could get a lot more interesting.

Here is how I see it playing out:

Wisky- 2-2
Indiana- 1-2
Purdue- 2-2
Northwestern- 1-3
Iowa- 4-0 :D
Minnesota- 2-2
Illinois- 0-4

Final B1G Standings

1- MSU 15-3
2- Michigan 14-4
3- Ohio State 13-5
4- Wisconsin 11-7
5- Iowa 10-8
6- Indiana 9-9
7- Purdue 9-9
8- Northwestern 7-11
9- Minnesota 7-11
10- Illinois 5-13
11- Penn State 4-14
12- Nebraska 4-14

So once this scenario pans out here is how the BTT will go:

First Round:
Iowa over Nebraska
Indiana over Penn State
Purdue over Illinois
Minnesota over Northwestern

Second Round:
Michigan State over Minnesota
Michigan over Purdue
Indiana over Ohio State
Iowa over Wisconsin

Semi-finals:
Michigan State over Iowa (I guess I can pick against the Hawks)
Michigan over Indiana

Finals:
Michigan State over Michigan

Hawkeye fans intently watch the selection show and rejoice as Iowa as picked as a 10 seed in the big dance.

Now you dont even have to watch baskeball until the NCAA Tourney starts.
