Austin Pope

Austin was originally a 2012 HS recruit but was reclassified to a 2013. He had offers from Oregon, Oregon State, Temple, Utah, & Washington State coming out. He ended up at Cerritos College last year and is playing at North Idaho College this season. He would have 3 years to play 2. Here is a highlight video of him last year at Cerritos College.

I'll also add that Fran and the staff have been in contact with him on and off for about a year now. 247 shows he currently has offers from Bowling Green and Oklahoma State. His recruiting will probably start to heat up again towards the end of March.

I remember him being very excited about Iowa interest this past summer, then all the HS verbals came.

So he'd have to sit a year, right? He'd graduate with Uhl, right?

Nope, he would be able to play right away because he is a JUCO player. I didn't mean to confuse anybody saying he had 3 years to play 2. That just means he still has that option to sit a year and not lose a year of eligibility. In other words he will be a junior next season wherever he ends up and has the ability to sit a year if he wants without losing his junior season. Also I guess I never stated that North Idaho is a JUCO program. My bad.

The confusing part was saying he had 2 years to play 3:cool:....I kid. Appreciate the info and highlight video. I'd completely forgotten about this kid. Could be a good situation for both him and Iowa.

Ah yes, I see it now. Didn't mean to transpose the numbers haha.

Although I think there is a higher risk (e.g., Dickerson), I would like to see Fran go the JUCO route with 1 of the 2 remaining scholarships to keep some balance by class year. Five freshman (including Ellingson) already for next year.

I wouldn't mind a Juco PG or Post player. The immediate impact in the post from a juco could be significant next year.

We desperately need a post player be it a JuCo, transfer or high school kid. We have nothing after Woodbury next season.
