At what point does Ferentz call O'Keefe back?

We're now darn near two complete regulation games bince our last actual TD drive (I'm not counting the one in OT against NU bince we only had to go 25 yards). The defense absolutely played well enough for us to win the game today. But Davis's quick drives that went nowhere and the TO at the Iowa 20 that gave Wisconsin 7 absolutely broke the defense's back.

O'Keefe had a few anemic games when AIRBHG hit us in 2004 and I know his offense wasn't sexy, but I don't know how anyone can defend Davis at this point. I blame every Iowa fan for this offense because you just don't run a guy like O'Keefe out of town.

I have to say that KOK did more with a bunch of average talent than GD seems to be capable of. We all wondered if it was KOK or KF holding down the O..... now we know. Sorry Ken

does Okeefe decide if we punt the ball from the 33 with the wind at our back?

Or never try to score at the end of the half when the defense is soft.

It's not the OC

When reading a box score is more exciting than actually watching the offense, we might have a problem.

Look, man, I agree that Ferentz maybe could have attacked even a little more than he did (though he has attacked far more this year than in the past). But take the 4th and 1 where Weisman got stuffed. O'Keefe would have called a PA to a TE there and probably scored or come darn close. I am totally fine with Iowa running a conservative offense and think it gives us the best chance to win, but even within that construct, you have to have better play calling and execution than what we saw today.

I feel terrible for the defense. Man, they played their butts off and did a great job until the offense hung them out to dry a few times.

I'm not saying Davis is better or worse then O'keefe - I'm just saying it's not the OC's.

Everyone complaining about Davis... guess what they did the same thing about O'keefe.

Unless Kirk calls all the plays, which is doubtful, it's on the OC. Those aren't just conservative plays being called, they're BAD play calls. Although the play calling looks a little better if the WR's catch the balls they should catch.

Yeah, there is just no creativity. O'Keefe certainly had his tendencies and we all knew them, but at least he would break them and catch the defense off guard.

'Cats are making the blackshirts look bad so far. Game ball last week to Phil Parker and the defense!

Go back and look at the old Texas....if you are going to line up in read option sets...run the *%$$%$^ read option once in a while otherwise it's just window dressing that doesn't fool anyone. The running plays are alllll old school KF. I really feel bad that I blamed alot of our offensive woes on KOK but no doubt now....its Kirk Ferentz. Even the pro team don't run his crap anymore....wake up KIRK.

Read option is too dangerous. QB/HB exchange is more prone to fumble. Should never run it. I'm being sarcastic. These clowns need to do something with this offense. Quick.

Our Defense deserves better Offensive play calling....don't quite know where to point the finger, but I have a good guess.

Never. Ken O'Keefe's offenses consistently finished in the bottom half of the nation and the bottom half of the B1G. Two wrongs doesn't make the first wrong a right. O'Keefe sucked, Davis sucks, Ferentz offense sucks.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but the last time Ken O'Keefe left the staff we had some struggles as documented in this thread. In the first game without him coaching the QBs our starting QB put up a 1.2 QBR. 1.2, not 12, 1 point 2. The last time O'Keefe left he had recruited CJ Beathard. Let us hope there's another O'Keefe gem on the roster or else we are boned.

I'm not one to get emotional and melt down, but if we don't have a big offensive showing against ISU and lose that game we might be looking at a 4 win ball club, maybe less. I think you have to get back to before the Randy Reiners era to find such a dismal performance by an Iowa QB against a I-AA program. I'm pretty nervous right now and am wondering if it would be possible for BF to take a leave of absence just to let KOK get the ship righted for a few weeks.

Never try and figure out KF. That said, our eyes told us something.

I think KOK has enough sense to get out of town whenever all the decent WR's leave. He left the first time right after McNuttt left and 1 year after DJK. He left the 2nd time 1 year after ISM left.

The whole offense needs to be reinvented. Kirk and Brian are out back chiseling out cement wheels as I post this.

False. Just need to get vertical with passing and find a quarterback who can hit a man-sized object with a football. That doesn’t need reinvention. It needs adaptation which is what Brian doesn’t do.

Complete 60-62% of passes thrown and call 3rd down plays beyond the chains, and Iowa will be in business. Defenses will have to spread out.

With our defense and ST we would be in the catbird seat in the west.
