At least the team did not fold tonight

Yes, they do need more talent.

BUT, if they could play with that level of intensity for a full game, instead of just a half, they would be competitive. Not win 20 games competitive, but competitive enough to beat some teams (especially at home) and not get embarrassed in the games they lose.

The team that played in the first half would be lucky to get to 8 wins. The team that played on the second half can be in the 14-16 range.

I thought the 2nd half adjustments were awesome, and they played with a lot of heart to finish out the game. Scoring 49 second half points after putting up 28 in the first is a sign of good coaching and players not quitting.

Fans that are on the ledge need to step off of it.

Tired of losing and reaching out for scraps of hope...I thought in 2 years we would be better but I don't know if we ever make it back to consistent quality...we are a ruined BB program....

Don't worry kiddo, ISU didn't lose tonight, so it's all good. Sure, they'll still prolly have a tough season, but hey, it's alright. And Fred has only been there for one year, not two. As a Clone fan, I thought you'd know that.

I don't know if playing with intensity and competing in the 2nd half makes up for the horse bleep performance in the 1st half. ISU turned it on and off at will, so while the final score looks more respectabe, it was not that close. Stupid mental mistakes plague this team at crucial times. (Blocking, charging, travel, to's, missed bunnies at the worst possible times)

I will say this, Basabe appears to be back to normal and that is at least a good sign.

This team will get allot better next year once the remnants of slow ball are gone.

Besides Cartwright all the talent on this team is in the freshman and sophomore classes and the problem is they are all 3s and smallish 4s.

I really like what I see out of Marble, Ogelsby and White they all seem to actually look and play like natural basketball players, they just need some quicker guards and some true bigs to complement them and those are on the way next year.

No moral victory for me tonight, but I was encouraged by the teams performance in the second half. Marble is really coming on strong on both ends of the floor. Basabe seems to be back on track. If we could get a healthy Cartwright, we would have a chance at freeing up some of our outside shooters again.

This may seem a bit harsh, but it's time to turn the page on Gatens, Brommer, Archie and Cartwright and focus on the freshman and sophs. Expecting any of these 4 guys to showcase some yet untapped potential is not realistic. The future of Iowa hoops starts with Marble, White, Ogelsby, Olaseni and Basabe and I would like to see the 3 freshman get more PT.

I agree with sioux that Cartwright's return will help create some looks for our shooters, but I suspect he will be dealing with this injury throughout the season and our shooters aren't exactly snipers.

I agree with your general point, but you also have to realize that throwing a completely overmatched Gabe Olaseni out there for 15-20 minutes a game isn't exactly going to help his development. Same goes with Oglesby and White to a lesser extent-- they can both be really good for us if they are playing 20 minutes. If they are playing 30+, they are likely to get exposed. It makes me think of Cully Payne-- playing him 35 minutes/game as a freshman didn't really make him better. He was basically the same player from the beginning of the season to the end.

Olive, I have tried to point that out to Herby and the rest of the play the freshmen pack. Throwing an inexperienced player like Gabe to the wolves will do little to help him develop.

I think it is definitely time to turn the page on Gatens and May because there are viable and honestly better options in Marble, Ogelsby, and White at 2/3 spots and those are going to be the guys going forward.

As far as Cartwright, Bormmer and Archie, there are no other options at Pg or center. Its not going to do anyone any good to have any of the younger guys playing out of position at those spots and like others have mentioned Gabe is obviously not ready although Im hoping his PT increases as the year goes on.

Gatens is a feet set shooter, period. He misses Cartwrights drive and dish where he can set his feet and get open looks. Marble is a scorer, and when he penetrates, he's looking to score, not dish it out to spot up shooters. Gatens can not create his own shot solely because he has never had to til now and doesn't possess the quickness or skill to run off screens and get himself enough seperation to get good solid looks. Cartwright make this thing go, and we miss him badly on the offensive end.
