Assistant Coaches

Would the "appeal" of this hire make more of a bang with the addition of some great assistants. I just think that ONE guy is not necessarily the only reason for success of lack thereof. If he brings together some recruiters and guys that fit with what he wants, this could be a much bigger success than initially anticipated.

I think who he selects as assistants could have some impact on Fran's "appeal", but chances are it won't.

For example, if BJ Armstrong or Steve Forbes joined as an assistant that would certainly boost his appeal.

The chances of bringing in that kind of assistant is pretty faint in my opinion.

Whom he hires might not have a splash, because are talking about names that most people wont know. However, whom he hires will have a definite effect on whether or not Fran is successful at Iowa

I am hopeful that someone will push him on this question and bring up the problems the prior two coaches had with early recruiting.

We don't need any more questions about style of play, or why he came to Iowa, etc.

Those have been answered. Get some questions out there that directly address the types of assistants that are successful at the major conference level and the difference between those guys and mid-major assistants.

If I hear set-ups like the one where little Lick said, "Dad, it's Iowa." I will puke. No softballs. Push the hard questions. Don't let him answer the recruiting question with, "We are going to go out and build relationships, etc." You need to ask him point blank if he is going to hire a proven Big Ten recruiter as an assistant.

I hope that he gets some assts that can flat out get it done on the recruiting trails. This will have to come day one IMO.

+1 Very important who he brings in as assistants. AAU connections would be a plus. Might not need top notch recruiter, maybe he will fit that bill himself.

I would like Forbes to come, with potential to take over someday, but why would you leave the job you have for the same job at a school that you thought you had a shot at being the head coach?

Bingo

Who are some top-recruiters that Iowa may have a shot at adding to the staff? Anyone w/ Iowa ties?

I will believe Forbes' love for Iowa if he does come. I mean if this was his dream job, being an assistant should be his second dream job. Otherwise, I have to call BS on his "passion."
