Assistant Coaches

So we all know about Fry's coaching tree, so that has me wondering what assistants or former players under Ferentz do you see having success as a head coach down the road in say maybe the next 5-10 years and beyond? How far do you see a Ferentz coaching tree to grow?

Here's the list of the assistant coaches for you ;)

Ken O'Keefe - Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks
Norm Parker - Defensive Coordinator
Erik Campbell - Wide Receivers and Tight Ends
Chris Doyle - Strength and Conditioning
Lester Erb - Running Backs and Special Teams
Eric Johnson - Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Linebackers
Rick Kaczenski - Defensive Line
Reese Morgan - Offensive Line
Phil Parker - Defensive Backs
Darrell Wilson - Linebackers and Special Teams
Charlie Bullen - Defensive Graduate Assistant Coach
Dan Clark - Offensive Graduate Assistant Coach

Well O'keefe and Parker are too old, I doubt they'd go anywhere.. Seems like Campbell could be a good offensive coordinator, but not really sure about head coaching. Lester Erb has a name that makes him sound like a great 1950's coach..haha.

I could see one of the three: Kaczinski, Morgan, or Phil Parker becoming a head coach. Especially Morgan, since he coaches offensive line, and I would think one of the best, most qualified guys Ferentz would've hired would've been Oline coach..

Morgan is close to 60 so he and Norm will retire from Iowa.

KOK seems to have no interest in being head coach. Seems his preference is to coach rather than meet media, etc. I think he would do well as head coach but dont think he wants to go that direction.

My prediction is that Phil Parker and Rick Kacenski will be heard from as coaches in future. Erb, Campbell, Wilson, and Eric Johnson will be fine too.

They all seem to be KF types in that they have found a place they like, enjoy teaching, work well together and It will take very good offer for them to go elsewhere.

Chris Doyle can write his own check IF he ever decides to go elsewhere. All immpressions are he and KF plan to work together as long as KF stays at Iowa.

Parker is one I could see as a potential head coach here at Iowa. He may well take over the defense when Norm calls it a day, and then we'd have to see. As far as potential successors for KF go (since I kind of got on that topic), I would love to see one of the Stoops come in. Doesn't have to be Bob. Mike has done a very impressive job at Arizona, and Mark is taking the right steps to becoming a head coach as well.

I thought KOK was a head coach at one time but decided to go the coordinator route.

He rarely is interviewed by the media and never addresses callers on the call in shows nor the public on I-Club circuits. Sounds like he does not care to deal with the public and would rather concentrated on coaching. Being a head coach in Division 1 football you cannot avoid the public and get away with it.
