Arizona's monster stats

They have outscored their first 2 opponents, 93-8.

QB Nick Foles has an 83% completion percentage! He is 49 for 59 with a 175 efficiency rating!

Both their running backs are averaging 8 yards per carry!

Their primary receiver has 13 catches for nearly 250 yards, 19 yards per catch!

Holy crap!

This will be Iowa's toughest road game of the year, no question.

well, look who they've played.............then again, look who Iowa's played. This will be the first true test for both teams. They do have the revenge factor, home field advantage, and arizona night games in the "ferentz era have not been kind to Iowa" advantage. That's gotta be taken into account. If ferentz has a copy of the Iowa/ASU game, he should play it as a reminder of what can happen.

you forgot to mention that that was against Toledo and The Citadel. Huge competition there.

Wrong. Playing in the Big House will be much more of a test.

Arizona hasn't played a quality opponent yet either....let's keep that in mind.

I was at Arizona's game against the Citadel last night. The Wildcats put up some big numbers but didn't look dominating doing it. If you look at the Citadel's 2-deeps. Their MLB is under 200 lbs. The Citadel was tiny. They looked like a good high school team. Arizona has talent on offense no doubt, but their offensive line didn't impose their will on a much smaller defensive line (biggest Dlineman was 250lbs). The Wildcats also only gave up 6 points. However there were lots of open receivers that dropped balls or the pass was awful.

1 more thing about Arizona Stadium...it's not intimidating. It's similar to Indiana or Northwestern and the crowd is not loud. I have full confidence that the Hawks should roll.

Excellent recon, Desert, thanks for posting! :)

Were you disguised as a "wildcat"? Or did you bleed black and gold?

When your first two games are against Toledo and the Citadel, your stats should be impressive. Remember how good Penn State looked in their first three games last year?

I don't either, because their fourth game was against Iowa, and PSU clearly wasn't ready.

ISU is a far sight better than either of the two tomato cans Arizona has played so far.

add to that the fact that ISU was at attempting to play that game as "the ONLY game" on their schedule....I think that is something that needs to be understood when you look at that game.

Iowa was MORE than prepared against a team who was doing ALL they could to compete with them.

I don't know if that true; there was some talk on CyFan last night that Rhoads might approach this game like it's just one of 12. As we all know, that was the big mistake Ferentz made, and he changed his approach after 2005.

The coaches have to treat this as just another game, but the players don't. Regardless, Iowa's defense should match up well with Zona....I expect to see a similar game plan as the ISU game.

Iowa in their first two games went conservative in the second half of both games. Kirk will not run up the score. Apparently Arizona has no problem with running up the score.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is the heat. Their guys accustomed to it, "our" guys are not. That being said, in an environment that dry, once the sun goes down the temperatures usually come down pretty quick. It could be 95 when the game starts and in the low 80's at games end. Not really worried about the crowd either; Arizona's stadium is barely bigger than Jack Trice, and it sounds like at 10,000 Iowa fans will be in the house. Their crowd really shouldn't be an issue, as Iowa has gone into places far more hostile and walked out victorious.

Really, if Iowa plays their game, it should be a fairly comfortable win.

I could be completely off base here, but I'm not too worried about the Arizona game.

With KF and staff, they learn from their prior mistakes and don't usually make the same ones twice. Think about their bowl performances before the Orange against USC and after.

I think they'll be much better prepared this go around and don't believe you'll see a flat performance like ASU in the past.

This. After the USC Orange Bowl, KF said something to the effect: "We didn't prepare as well as we could have. That will never happen again."

I expect he's taking the same approach for this trip to the dessert.

KINDA sets up like PSU last year. They looked great, but hadn't played anyone. We were unsure of ouselves.

Do you have a clue who they played? I guess you don't follow any other schools around the country. The Citadels defensive line averages about 250lbs and average about 6'1" in height. They have played two patsies. Check back after the game next week and then tell me how good they are.

Regarding Shada:

That's fair. And maybe I am not remembering clearly. But I recall some trepidation with going there, white out, UNI game, ISU running on us...

Bottom line, we did what we do. I expect the same at AZ.
